Here you go Brad, Elizabethans. Shown in the 1981 catalogue but dropped from the following one. I’m guessing they just didn’t sell.

I stil have the Edwardian Picnic Duo, and the married Edwardian couple in Deckchairs, with the man wearing a knotted Handkerchief on his head, and a very snobby wife. Superb figs full of charm which was one of the main attractions, as well as a high Tin content which improved any fine detail. Another classic was the regency gent holding a baby up high, I think it was called "That's My Boy"

Aha! Thanks! Yes, that makes sense. The figure put me in mind of "Anne of a Thousand Days" or "A Man for All Seasons".
    Prost!

Yep, that's S&D Miniatures. They got their Phoenix molds from Forty-Third, Ltd, who had acquired them from someone who got them when Phoenix closed, someone in Australia, I believe it was.

John Eden has some, too, along with many of Russell Gammage's Rose Miniatures molds.

    Prost!

Yes! That one was shown in the catalog along with the lady holding the little girl by the hand. I've got a couple of those in the stash. I have a plan to do a small shadowbox with the gent as an officer returning home from the campaign in Germany, to see his son for the first time.

I like to look at pictures of the dioramas that Shep Paine did using Phoenix' Georgian figures, too. Like his "Admiralty Board" shadowbox.

I know that we are in a golden age for variety and quality today, with so much talent producing finely cast figures. But I'm nostalgic for these classic ranges. I consider the time when they were the top of the line in our hobby-Phoenix, Rose, Imrie/Risley, Stadden, Sanderson. I can accumulate a lot of them-and I do-and work on larger displays, than if I were to use today's figures, which are really meant as one-offs as far as displaying them is concerned. And which are more expensive by the piece, too.

    Prost!

I won the R21 (Napoleon Advancing) at Bugle Call 2019 in the S&D-sponsored vignette class. It's a nice little kit which I'll probably get around-to once I've finished Le Cimier's Louis XVI & Marie Antoinette, which has been in a drawer for longer than I care to remember, and has just managed to claw its way back to the light of day.
Looking at the pictures, I also recognise R16 which also resides somewhere in a similar drawer.
These little gems certainly get around.

    Cheers,
    Andrew

Yep ! those were the days, I remember being asked for the first time being asked to be a judge at the B.M.S.S. Finals. I was really excited, but was soon brought down to earth as I was to judge the "Toy" Bands class. I planned my revenge and the following year, I had a Sanderson figure, the one legged Barman from the Press Gang series. I put a drum on his back symbols on the inside of his knees, a flute round his neck and fashioned a Concertina in his hands, I entered it in the bands class as "Royal Navy Dance Band 1797 !!! Ray

Brilliant memories. I won my first bronze medal at the 1971 model engineer exhibition with a Phoenix diorama.

Sorry Nap, it's long gone and 2 moving houses ago, but I loved doing that then. I used to call them Animations, not a full conversion but not the straight figure out of the box.It really pissed off the officials in BMSS as no one had ever done it before i.e. put a modelled figure in a Toys class.

the Phoenix brand was one of the pioneers in the 80's figurine world, I still have (I think) a few pieces of this brand that I still have to paint. Thank you for this memory and your sharing

la marque Phoenix était un des pionnier dans le monde de la figurine des années 80 , il me reste encore ( je pense ) quelques piece de cette marque que je doit encore peindre . Merci pour ce souvenir et ton partage
