    Dear Planeteers,

I am currently working on another classic bust: "Le Tambour de la Marseillaise" by CASTLE Miniatures. It's a lovely bust and many artists added a drum or a flag to it. Although this looks quite amazing, I decided to keep the bust as it is. So far, I am very happy with the way my Revolutionary turned out.
    Cheers Sven

I agree, it is quite a powerful bust itself without any additions. Great painting job.

Great start Sven. I really like this bust a lot and yours is shaping up to become a very nice version of it.

Funnily enough I am currently painting this one myself, and am at roughly the same stage that you are with it. The eyes on yours look great, but I've had the Devil's own job trying to get the ones on mine to look right.

His left eye was no problem, but it took me four attempts to get his right eye to something that I'm more or less happy with (even now I'm not 100% happy, but have decided that it will do).

I think there was a casting flaw on mine, in any case I ended up having to apply a tiny bit of filler into his right eyeball in order to fill a little "pit" that was not obvious straight away. Also his right eye appears to have been sculpted slightly larger than his left eye (at least on mine anyway!!) This is not so obvious when you look at the bust from an angle, but becomes more so when you look at it directly from the front.

I would be interested to know whether you encountered any similar issue?

    Great work Sven.
    The face is incredible.
I have always wanted to add to see one of these with drum sticks in the drum sling.
    Best wishes

Sergei, Bob, Steve, ,Scott, Mike and Keith,

thanks you very much for your comments.

I had issues with the eyes, too. My problem, however, was not the left, not the right eye. I cannot blame any casting flaws, I just missed the right size and angle a few times. The eyes are always the hardest part because it is true what the wise men say: You can see the soul in the eyes.

Funny enough, I have also thought about adding drum sticks. It shouldn't be too difficult to add some since I already have drilled out the pockets.

My biggest question so far is how to paint the trim of his jacket? Red, silver, white or even gold?
    Cheers

    Hi Sven

Catching up a bit here , a cracking bust and a popular one as well

I have to say those eyes are great as is the painting on the bicorne

My thoughts are to go for a contrasting colour for the trim

    Following with interest
