Well, I have finally finished a model! This is the first model I have completed from start to finish since I moved to Australia in late-2017. In many respects, it is the encapsulation of the ups and downs associated with that move. It has been there as I have settled my family into their new life, adjusted myself to my new environment, and eventually found gainful employment. While my completion rate has not necessarily increased, I am now at the bench more regularly. However, the number of projects seem to continue to grow exponentially!

This bust is produced by H&V Miniatures and it was sculpted by Antonio Meseguer. It represents a Bavarian Jager during the Franco-Prussian War. As mentioned in this post, there is an ongoing question mark of the correct colour for Bavarian cornflower blue. More often than not, we see quite a pale shade of blue but surviving examples of uniforms from this period suggest that the colour is much darker. However, I have tried to achieve a balance between the surviving examples, and how the uniform might have looked like after prolonged use. Indeed, having worked, and lived, around the military for few years, it is quite clear that if you line up ten soldiers dressed in the same uniform then you will see a degree of variation amongst them. This is for any number of reasons such as length of use etc.

The figure itself is painted in a mix of oils and acrylics. The face and leather were finished in oils while the rest was painted in Jo Sonya acrylics. I also made use of an airbrush on the uniform as well as the paintbrush. Here are a couple of smudgy pictures of the final product. You can find more pictures on my Facebook page.
