    Great figure and great refs.

    Now watch out for the 'mounted sappers didn't have axes' discussion... we have it every time ;)

    As far as I can see, no contemporary source shows them with axes*, but (at least as far as the 12th Chasseurs was concerned) Elting says:

    *there's a quite likely theory of 'self perpetuation' whereby one later artist showed them with axes then all the other ones followed suit.
