    Hi to all

As promised in my last review where I looked at Murat from RP here:
    https://www.planetfigure.com/threads/general-murat-from-rp-models.257643/

This is my look now at the companion bust , ideal both as a stand alone piece and with each other

    Mustafa 2.jpg

Mustafa was the leader of the opposing army's to the French during the Egyptian campaign and when in 1799 he met in battle at Aboukir

Of course the clothing worn by such a leader was very ornate and colourful so this is the perfect piece to let your idea's go wild

Lets have some reference pics before we look at the resin

    Prep

Out came my optivisor looking at the pieces

    • Casting line on left side running under arm and down sash and on underneath
    • Sash has tiny mismatch and 2 air holes ( on underneath edge) but nothing careful sanding and filling won't sort
    • Left arm needs a little excess resin at the cuff inside with the right having casting line and excess resin at the back
    • Pistol/hand has casting line running underneath along trigger guard and hand
    • Single hand has a fine casting line to sand away
    • Plume ...same applies as hand ...fine casting line
    Positives
    • Resin is smoothly cast no major work needed
    • Fits of the pieces is very tight with minimal filler needed
    • Undercuts are good
    • Details are well cast in particular the decoration

Let us open the packet now

    Torso

Mustafa is wearing clothing that is highly decorative with all the details of the embroidery being well worked by the 3D sculptors and well cast , head is turned to the right looking down the line of the pistol that he is holding.

In the sash we have a engraved pistol in a open topped holster , on the opposite side a dagger is pushed under the sash

A star and crescent has been added to the holster and also to the pouch that is carried on a cross belt

The sash itself has folds and the holster a dagger shaping is seen underneath it

The locating area's for the arms are well cast with well cast cut outs ready to take the arms themselves

On the rear there is a mass of very intricate decoration which obviously painting will bring out even more

Looking at the facial features , nicely worked and in scale , good details on the beard overall with a small area at the front softer ...a tiny bit of putty will detail this back easily

the headwear is excellent in shaping with slight texture on the wrap around scar , the central portion is nicely detailed with tiny dots all over ..not one is missing , at the front we have the star and crescent above this on the top part a plume holder

What I am happy with is the very rounded shaping of the top part sectioned well on the top

    Arms

The right is outstretched with the left being held at raised inwards towards the chest ready to take the separate hand which as a part of the rein in

Both has soft natural creases with the lower part having decoration on and around the cuffs

the shoulder have really good shaped fitment blocks , creating a strong and tight fit to the torso ...a small amount of filler is needed

    RP Mustafa 018.jpg

    Hands

Both the hands are as expected really well done the right has the forefinger through the trigger protector ready to fire , the fingernails are all well shaped

The pistol itself has engraving on it with the barrel being virtually hollow ..clever casting

The pistol mechanism needs a bit of work doing to it with reworking the frizzen at the front , the actual hammer with a flint is fine and pulled back cocked

I feel the ramrod underneath is too large and should be reduced in size

As I said the left hand has a rein cast on , some might want to add more ...easy to do with putty of lead sheet

Fit into the cuffs for both are very accurate

RP Mustafa 027.jpg RP Mustafa 026.jpg RP Mustafa 025.jpg

    Plume

Simple to fit into place , consisting of strands all well cast with a small amount of movement , you could easily replace this with a real cut down feather as well

    Final thoughts

A nice release and not a subject I have seen in this scale as a bust , good details on the pieces , small amount of prep needed but nothing too much , a colourful piece and a will look good together with Murat

Its worth remembering that RP is not a large company and like all smaller ones there is a lot of work done by very few people all with dedication to both the releases and to the customer

thanks for this great review Nap. Actually I had just bought the same bust in smaller scale (1:16) and can only confirm all the good things about RP. Also on the smaller scale the level of details is flawless.
