    Here's an odd one.
Does anyone know if any company produces in 75mm split and drying salt cod. A bit niche I know and not too difficult for me to make ..... but I need abot 20 and I'm a lazy git.
    Doing a viking returning home.

Wow, Del, that has probably never been asked before, anywhere in the hobby! :)

The only things I can think of that come close-sets of food, various vittles, are the sets Verlinden made, and the sets under ADV brand, which I think was affiliated with Historex. I don't think I've seen any dressed and filleted fish in those sets.

However, it wouldn't be too much work with the basic resin casting supplies available, to sculpt 1 as a master, then make a mold and cast a bunch of them.

Saying that does make me think of 3D printing, too. If you have a look on Shapeways, you might find someone has already produced that, or, you might find someone through that website who would make them for you.

    Hope that helps, prosit!

By the way, my grandfather used to make salt cod-baccala-at Easter, no, for Good Friday dinner. He used to soak it in the bathtub for a day or two, to bring it back. Used to stink to high heaven, but when the dish was made, it was wonderful.

    Prost!

I think I'll probably have to model something. I'll find an in-scale feather in the spares to give me the 'ribbed' split skeletal structure, add a head and tail and get some cast.
My Gran used to cook and press tongues. Tasted delicious but the smell whilst cooking could have conquered continents.

i made some feathers and similar bits by 'crash' moulding Del.
Model the original brush talc over and press into a blob of Duro then remove. Once the Duro is dry mix up some more and press and peel to get repeats.

The Duro is flexible enough that you can slice the bit you need off with a scalpel after it's dried:)

    Cheers

Ahh, it seems this isn't an unusual scenario! Fortunes in Whitby sell smoked kippers (and bacon) which taste amazing but don't half get me into trouble with my wife when I buy some. They're just along from the steps up to the abbey.
    Follow your nose... fantastic.

The size of the fish you want to model will be a factor, too. Atlantic cod can go from about 2 feet to 4 feet in length.

    Prost!

Kippers.....I had a mate, sadly long gone, ex- RSM Engineers. He called people who upset him "kippers" , meaning they were spineless, two-faced bastards with no guts !

    Nap,

Dry salt cod is the Christmas Eve main dish in Portugal. And it is delicious. On this occasion it is usually cooked in boiling water, and consumed with potatoes and other veggies, and a boiled egg.

I think that apart from the Northern/Scandinavian countries, Portugal is the only Southern Europe country where dry salt cod is so much consumed.

The tradition is with time fading away (as sadly many other things) but in the old days there was a popular saying here: "If you don't like dry salt cod you're not a good Portuguese".

There are so many recipes for cooking it that we often say that there are 365 ways of cooking it.

I love it! And eat it a few times a month. In my case my favorite recipe is doing it roast in the oven, with small potatoes, lots of olive oil, lots of onions, lots of garlic, and lots of chili pepper. Yummy!

And btw, only the fresh one smells strongly (indeed! There's a street in Lisbon, where there are several shops specialized in selling every parts of dry salt cod, such as the whole fish, tongues, etc, and the entire street smells like... well, like fish... :p ), but I always buy it frozen and already soaked, so don't have to soak it in water (if a good piece, 1 or 2 days won't be enough to get rid of the salt, it must stay in the water for some 3 days, regularly changing the water), avoiding time consuming... and the smell ;)

And Del, sorry, I have no clue where you might find a 75mm scale one! But as others have said, it shouldn't be that hard to DIY.

    Cheers!

To be honest, along with the abbey, that covers Whitby as a venue for me.
