That is a spot on colour for a base coat for this end result. I'm sure this'll be a gem when it's done.

A coat of brown orche on top of the yellow orche I put on first.

This gives me I hope the base on which to work.

Might be over doing the posts.

    Sure someone will say.

Anyway I have started to build paint from the hoofs up.

Black and burnt umber mix with black dominate at the lower leg with the reddish brown taking over.

    Hi people.

Saturday morning, seems a good day for an update.

    20200620_064037.jpg

Slight departure from my norm as I have added a little oil in the paint, however not over keen.

I will continue using oleopasto instead which should give it a sheen but not to much.

    Comments welcome...

    Good or bad.

    Hi Malc

Good to see all the updates especially on how the horse progresses so do continue to post as much as poss .

I have only painted a horse head so this is interesting to see the way the colour is going ...it certainly starting to look like the reference

Did you pin that leg ?

Not heard of oleopasto ...is it a satin ?

    Look forward to more

    Happy benchtime

    Hi Nap.

    Thanks for reply.

It's a oil medium, the one I am using adds body and supposedly speeds drying ???

    It dries semi Matt.

I would normally use wax to get a Matt finish especially on uniforms.

Hi Malc. Really fascinating to watch this horse coming to life.

You mention using a wax to achieve a matt finish. What is it and where do I get some, please? I’m not completely satisfied with the matt varnishes I’ve tried.
