Might be a "slight" waistline difference ....lol

Been looking at the belt Ithink it looks like a US pistol belt which came in shade variation ...but very happy to be told different !!

    Hi everybody

Bit of a verbal update ....aguilette basecoated , belt completed

Following on from this picture in which we see a diamond badge

    image.jpeg

I consulted Pierre ( Akyaru ) a fountain of knowledge on the Legion who replied thus:

"This diamond shaped badge or lozange is the unit badge, part of the French system to identify both unit and arm of service, in Bigeard's case the 3e RPC later renamed 3e RPIMa.

It is worn only on the left sleeve, because the divisional patch is worn on the right sleeve, in B's case the famous 10e Division parachutiste.

It was not worn as a general rule in the field, some units did others not and Bigeard being somewhat of a law to himself the choice is entirely up to you.

On parades it was of course seen more often.

BTW the system is still in use today, with the patches being held on by velcro, to be taken of on operations."

    Interesting ....

So looking at this picture as well in which you can see the division badge being worn

    image.jpeg

..I have added both badges ...the diamond one is painted with the divisional one just needs the eagle painted ..a job for today !

Pierre also says the centre colour on the division badge is the colour of the beret

    Here's the actual badges

    image.jpeg image.jpeg

And here is another very good Osprey elite book on FFL para's includes lots of badges and great colour plates as well

image.jpeg and the later reprint image.jpeg

    More Osprey on the FFL

    image.jpeg image.jpeg

    image.jpeg image.jpeg

Big thanks to Pierre for the details

    Hi Folks

    Bit of another verbal update

Painted the diamond ...happy ...did the divisional patch on the right arm .......kept looking at it .....it was too small !!!!.....off it came ...

Now put a larger one on and painted the 3 background colours .....next is that eagle .....AGAIN!!!!!

Also nearly finished the beret colour , keeping it to the red on the patch as advised by Pierre but with shadows and some highs ...will look at it again next

Talking of badges in particular the divisional patch ...Pierre kindly sent a great ref of it being worn ....on a camo jacket ....great option if you want to do a version

In this photo it shows Jacques MASSU, commander of the 10e DP in the Battle of Algeria , where you can clearly see the wearing of the divisional insignia on the camouflage jacket.

    image.jpeg

and one of the general with Mr B ....camo and no divisional patch !!.....thanks again Pierre

    Pics coming soon !

One thing I noticed is in boxart he has quite a heavy 5 o'clock shadow ...that's going to need a lot of control from me !!!

Hopefully you will see the additional piece on the aguilette and the badges

As always comments welcone ...good bad or suggestions !!

    Excellent work Nap!

About time to dust off mine!

The one in the photo in your post is Lieutenant-colonel Pierre Jeanpierre, legendary commanding officer of the 1st BEP, later 1st REP, but you knew that of course;)! Sadly only a very small bust exists of him, not a great likeness , by Warrior. So there still is a lot of work to do for Pavol! If you read French there's a very good biography of Jeanpierre by Raymond Muelle, a former commander of the 1er bataillon parachutiste de choc: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lieutenant-colonel-Jeanpierre-légende-Raymond-Muelle/dp/291596016X

If you need info on Rollet, just shout!

    Happy painting,
