    Quick question for the button counters:

    Under the copy of the Knotel plate of the Officer of Chasseurs the commentary includes "...wears a crisp white cravat, its corners protruding in front of his ears...."

    I have often applied a touch of white paint to these "corners" not really knowing what they were so I tried to satisfy my curiosity. Research led me to conclude that they were the corners of a shirt with an attached collar which was turned up onto the neck and had the cravat worn over it.

    Of course, I could be wrong (I frequently am). Does anyone know any better?
