first. what color would the interior of a British sun helmet be in the Sudan wars?

I think that the visible internal colour of the British sun helmet was green.
I haven't come across a specific reference, but green tends to come up in repro items.

Thanks` for the response Andrew. I have a repo Sun helmet and the interior is green but being that it is a reproduction I wasn't sure that was correct. Also thanks for the link to the goggles very helpful. Thanks again. Brock

Without doubt the inside of the rim of the helmet is a dark green. The inside of the dome bit would be an unfinished material of whatever the hat was constructed from. They were often made from cork, as cork is cheap, very light and surprisingly strong.
