Really great detail but I wish Oleg would vary his poses somewhat as they all (of late) seem to be variations on the 'twisting to the left' action pose and subjectively, very similar facial features with the same bearded face making it into a number of different kits.

I have bought a number of Mercury , Revolution Mins and Medieval Forge mins in recent times and whilst the detail and fit is superb, they all have very similar body posture and facial characteristics - just take a look at, respectively, (Mercury - Medieval Infantryman, Macedonian, Sikh Warrior, Beserker) - (Medieval Forge Marathon Hoplite and Scandinavian Warrior) and (Revolution Mins Viking) to see what I mean. It looks as well like the latest Hoplite he has done which featured here on PF a couple of days ago follows this same theme too.

As I said, I love his work and the pieces he produces are amongst the best on the market but I would like to see a bit more variety of pose and some new faces too perhaps..?

Oleg does it again. Although I agree with Gary. Oleg’s bearded faces look very similar. It’s only when they are shaved do you see variations and actually this is one of them. That being said and this is my opinion only. Oleg is the best sculptor working today. Only Konnov and Laruccia can touch him.

I find is very disrespectful to rank living and actively working sculptors.

Sounds like you don’t have a favorite ball player, fighter or musician. Bravo.

I 'll say a few words in Oleg 's defense. Of course, it is difficult not to agree with the opinion expressed here, and there is an undeniable similarity in postures and faces, in Oleg 's sculpture. When the number of works performed is calculated no longer by tens, but probably by hundreds, it is very difficult to choose a spectacular pose, especially dynamic, so that the face is not repeated a little bit and distorted by rage, especially if this face of the viking and it is not closed by a fence, as in the medieval knight. But I think Oleg 's sculpture doesn 't get any worse!

Even though I have several of these pieces in the stash, I'd never really thought of this before. But Gary raises an interesting point.

They're all great sculpts though, and I'll likely end up getting this one as well.

I really don't see why it's "disrespectful" for someone to "rank" sculptors. It's all subjective anyway, so what does it matter.

Thank you for the above which is very constructive and encouraging. All feedback was given with good intent I assure you; certainly on my part as I have lots of Oleg's sculpts and want to buy more in the future. If I was not interested for the future, then I would not have bothered to make (any) comment at all! I just want the finished products to be slightly more varied; especially in terms of facial features.

I am sure a great sculpting talent like Oleg will have no problems in creating some new faces and postures moving forward and I look forward to buying more of his works in the months and years ahead.
    Best regards.

Everything true guys! Oleg is talented in everything, and he correctly perceives criticism, without it there will be no creative growth of the sculpture!

it is very easy. Just imagine a ranking of PF painters where you occupy the last place or not mentioned at all. But do not worry. It is all subjective!

Just to be clear I can spend days naming great sculptors. I’m not disrespecting George Foreman when I say Mohammed Ali. Not Peter Tosh when I say Bob Marley. Not Manny Pacquiao when I say Floyd Mayweather. Not Kobe Bryant RIP when I say Michael Jordan. Not Maradona when I say Pele. Ect ect.

Sergei, with respect I think you are reading far too much into this or descending into woke territory on this topic as no offence is intended and it is clear the point Steve is making. As Steve indicated, everyone has a 'favourite' list; be it footballers, musicians, politicians, actors or whatever; even ex-girl/boy friends...!

So on the basis of your submission about declaring as such, why do we bother with, say, football league tables, pro tennis world rankings, Olympic medal tables, or even record sales charts "just in case" we upset anyone who is at the bottom of those respective tables; or worst still, even failed to qualify at all.

Perhaps the simple answer is to up or improve your game to make sure you get on it and as already mentioned, any such submission by an individual(s) and on this particular subject is entirely subjective anyway.

Any list of PF figure painters would see me really well down and I would not be at all upset by it. As Clint Eastwood's 'Dirty Harry' character once said...."A good man 'always' knows his limitations."

There are plenty of guys on here who are much better painters than me. There are even guys in my local club who much better painters than me. So I already know that I'd be way down any such list (assuming that I even made it onto the list  ). And all of those guys and their great work just inspire me to try and up my game to become a better painter myself - I see it as a positive thing. So no, I wouldn't worry at all.

That is it in a nutshell.

Just wondering Sergei: Do you consider modelling competitions at shows to be "disrespectful" as well? After all, they are nothing more than a bunch of guys (that day's judges) ranking contestants' entries against each other to award Golds, Silvers, Bronzes, Commendeds .... or nothing at all. Is that "disrespectful" to the guys who come away with no medal?

But even that is subjective: I've seen some spectacularly good models win Gold at one show, only to come away with nothing at all (or maybe a bronze) at another show. Different show, different group of judges - that's subjectivity for you!

There is some confusion here. I think I said that I was thinking about living and active person, so Mohammed Ali and Bob Marley were great, but are irrelevant here (and for those who care, I listen Bob Marley regularly). Sports and song charts have clear competition criteria (points, goals, number of downloads, etc). There are of course competitions in our hobby too, but people enter them voluntarily knowing that they would be judged according to certain rules which are known in advance. Yes, in theory, we are supposed to take failures constructively and improve ourselves every time we are misjudged, ignored or remained unnoticed. I will leave to everyone to decide whether he or she really does that in practice.

Sergei, the only confusion I'm seeing is Kevin's (subjective) opinion that Oleg is so good a sculptor that he's in a class of his own being misinterpreted by you as Kevin saying "everyone else is rubbish".

You appear to think that we shouldn't have a "favourite" XYZ (unless they're dead!) or that if we do then we shouldn't say so on a public forum in case we "offend" anyone. Personally I think that's a bit daft. And I think that in the real world most people (sculptors included!) aren't as sensitive as you appear to think they are.
