Depicting a Spanish Musketeer carrying a Arquebus , a matchlock weapon and wearing the typical high combed helmet with a musket rest in the left hand , the right being positioned on the right hip clentched

As with all previous releases the parts are held in a most useful laser cut wooden box with a unpainted version on the top and one of the longer sides , the remaining sides carrying the Legion logo and contact details

Being a musketeer with the "apostles" being in use I expected a lot more parts but very pleasantly surprised to find them already cast onto the torso so for me that's a big plus point right away

Parts consist of the main torso , 2 arms, head, helmet , sword handle, scabbard, powder container, the main musket , top of the weapon rest , a silvered post to use as the rest post handle, finally a bag for his personal items..or other items!!

Prep

Having seen other busts there is expected to be very minimal to do ...was this the same here on this resin ....of course , casting has been cleverly carried out with casting posts positioned for ease of removal .

I would suggest special care is taken when removing the post on the helmet underside to make sure you don't loose the shape of the brim

Some might want to remove resin inbetween the baldric which holds the scabbard ..but not essential

There is a slight flashing on the hand cover of the sword

Should you find the the scabbard not straight then using a heat source will solve that ...be careful !!!

Looking at the resin

Torso

Obviously the largest of the pieces , the first thing I noticed was the texture on the clothing , , the shoulders are cast ready to take the arms

I like the way the jkt has been shaped ( fluting ) where it leads to the shirt , this is full collared sitting naturally onto the shoulders

Wearing the apostles ( there should be 12 based on the 12 religious apostles , we have 11 on the sculpt ) on a nicely worn belt , the apostles ( which held powder ) are really well sculpted with the hanging cords being cast well

There is also a bullet ( shot ) bag , this looks like it is fully loaded , looking underneath there is 2 cutouts which the powder horn fits neatly into.

To note on the torso its also strewn with belts , all pulling into the torso correctly , seams of the jkt are worked onto the piece ...button and buckle work is cleanly shown

Arms

Both of these are continuing with the high quality texture work on the sleeve which you will see in the pictures

Wearing heavy leather gloves on his hands both well sculpted with good finger definition and not overworked creases with the wear.

The right hand sits clentched together on the hip the left ready to take the weapon stock and the post of the rest

Both upper arms have good locating area's to fit into the torso shoulder well

Head

As with all the releases no matter wether bust or full figure the facial work is a main focus point ...and on a bust even more so ( possibly I am a little biased as that's all I paint !!!..lol ) .

The face is a cracking sculpt , very typical of the period , features are all very sharply worked , the eyes are very well done ( you might see a slight line of flashing on his left ..this was removed easily )

Legion and the sculptor have well thought out the cheek protectors by casting these onto the actual face , the actual armored plates sitting correctly on a backing piece, this is all held tightly to the head by a strap running underneath the chin ...good buckle work as well

Facial hair is a pointy beard and well trimmed moustache both these and the hair at the back are all with good surface work

Looking now at the remaining resin pieces

Helmet

Classic in the style of the period , with a hight comb running fore and aft , decoration is simple but well done on a raised band .

The shaping of the brim is very good and the same apply to the casting as well so well done there

There is a casting plug to remove ..just be careful , fit to the head is spot on with no filler being needed

Bag

A small bag of the style often seen in original images , close fitting to the torso , locating is simple by matching the post and the hole in the main torso






Powder flask

Again the sculptor has used original illustrations and items to represent this item , nice accurate shaping with a flowered pattern on the front , and detail on the back , fit is easy by locating in the holes on the torso under the shot bag by using the well styled cording cast already to the flask




Weapon rest

Well shaped and cast in a "Y" style , tiny bit of flashing to simply remove , fitting well onto the supplied metal post and then being held in the left hand







Sword

Consisting of 2 pieces one being the main handle , fitting into the cupped top on the sheathed blade

The handle is well shaped again but a little delicate so be careful and fit the parts together soonest, the handle has a grip sculpted with the actual knuckle protection being a roped effect

The main piece has the scabbard being held in a 3 strapped connection , all having good details , the actual cupped part is ready to take the handle ...at the end of this you will have a very nice looking sword

At the end of the scabbard you have a protector as well for when the sword runs against ground

Some might wish to move the strap ends away from the actual casting




Weapon

This is a really good representation of the matchlock , with good mechanism details , the trigger being enclosed in a guard
I would have liked some wood texture on the stock etc but using paints will produce this effect

The barrel end is slightly hollow , in this scale you caould easily drill this further inwards.

Underneath we have a rod , lacking a shape at the end but easy to sort if you wish to do so





Final Thoughts

A very good release with a lot of potential with the painting , sculpting a pleasure to see and share with you all , minimal prep
Legion continue to be one of the leaders in releases both in terms of presentation and quality of casting and sculpting
