New heading for manufacturers?

I sent an email to the admins and they said to ask the group at large this question. Would having a separate tab for figure manufacturers be worthwhile to everyone? I am also involved in wargaming and they have a site (TMP) which has a separate section that shows manufacturers of figures or of things that a wargamer might need such as bases, paints, rules, etc. Would others like something like that here? I'm new to the larger sized figures so I have no idea who manufactures what in the 54mm and larger sizes. Something like this would be very helpful to me and I'm hoping others would feel the same.
To get the admins to setup something like this we'll need some feedback so please leave your thoughts on this here.
    Thank you.

I went to see the site you mention. I find it a bit slow you have to read the list, then open the page where you find the references ... if you don't have a fast connection, the desire to search passes.
I think a spreadsheet is enough without opening a particular section ... how the index was made for artists and illustrators

if it were decided to do it I would do it very simply five columns maximum.

I would enter the company name, scale, reference link, possible start date and end of activity, maybe report if it is historical or fantasy

    this is my simple thought

Have a look at 'Mirofsoft's website.
    https://www.mirofsoft.com/adresses/
He has a spreadsheet called 'Links' which you might find useful (last updated June 2019).
It's downloadable and contains what you require, plus associated websites.

    Cheers,

I actually have a few different lists on the blog I help run and in a Facebook group I run too.

I see these as a resource for people and hopefully as a way to avoid people falling into the eBay and other sites which are packed with recasters trap.

The only thing is managing a list takes time to make it easily useable. But I personally see it as a good thing.

This is the "Traders" page for example. Though it needs an update.

The TMP site may not be perfect but it is a good idea of where to start. Managing the list can be time consuming so the Admins will need to figure out a way to make it simple, easy, and current. Hopefully others here can help with that but I for one would love to know the different manufacturers who make a 75mm whatever-it-is-that-I-want. Word of mouth is nice but in this day and age I think technology can help a bit more.

    I agree there Carl ...

I can see how a list might be useful ...but members look at figure news and use the links there ...

For older stuff we are lucky to have Mirosoft's excellent facility

We don't have a software to create and maintain an index like this. The tools we have within the forum (forums/threads/posts) are designed more for a discussion than to maintain a list. We could do something like we did with Uniform Reference https://www.planetfigure.com/categories/uniform-reference.129/ - but this is not ideal. We can also create a new website with a wiki like software. This would require a team of dedicated people to enter and monitor the content.

    Either method is workable.

The Treefrog Toy Soldier forum has a similar process-it has subforums for manufacturers. That's where new release information is posted, too. It works pretty well, and it would probably work well here, if we chose to set up the subforums.

As has been pointed out, here in PF, we have the Figure News section, and Mirof makes his info available. That works, too.

From the admins' perspective, the question is, how much effort would it take to change horses mid-stream? From the users' perspective, how much aggravation would it cause? Is it worth those costs, to change?

    Prost!

You are welcomed for anu suggestions, improved information, additive informations, etc ...

    Housecarl,

The figure news scrolls by and isn't permanent. I think a more static page, at least as far as names & links is more what I'm looking for.

But the overall maintenance is the issue, how do you keep something like this current without overloading the admins or some other kind soul (that'd be Mirosoft) ?
