Charging The Guns, Waterloo

This diorama was the first that I built using Historex figure kits. It depicts the Scots Greys and Inniskilling Dragoons charging the French line of artillery at Waterloo.
It is a well documented charge. The tragedy of the event was that the British cavalry rode too far through thick mud, exhausting both horse and rider. When they reached the guns they were spent and easy targets for the French Line Lancers that attacked their flank. Although an Eagle was captured, it was at great losses to the British. After I completed this diorama I found a painting that showed almost the exact scene that I created.
Probably not the best work that I have done, but it was ambitious and I learned a lot. IMG_1717.JPG IMG_1718.JPG IMG_1719.JPG

Very nice diorama, lots of activity and interesting points to look at. The painting of horses and riders is vibrant and pleasing to the eye. I especially like the groundwork, with muddy puddles being churned up by the horse's hooves. I'm a little biased but the Scots Greys are easily my favourite British Napoleonic Wars unit, so I liked this very much! ;) Great work!

That is one big complex project, there must be 25 figures in there, plus horses and equipment. Historex figures are complex to assemble and there has been a serious investment in time here. How long did it take you to complete this?

I find it a magnificent job ... there is all the passion, research, programming. Perhaps not the painting of a best of show, but certainly the honesty of a work done with the heart .... my dream, perhaps of all, is to create a diorama like this and many of us know that we will never relate it .. Your work makes us dream.

I hope google translated well ..

I always admire the fortitude of those who create these great Dioramas, the investment in research, painting and assembly is remarkable. As someone who has the attention span of a fly I take my hat off to you.

That would have walked away with a couple of trophies from the Historex Competitions in Paris, I can tell you that! (Sadly, they are no longer an event, but they were great ). Wonderful work. Where on earth do you store/display them ?

You have all been too kind with your praise of my dioramas.
    Thank you so much!
As to your question Alan, I have sold them all to various collectors, here in Canada and the US. Saves me dusting them!
Now onto the next one .....
    Cheers!
