Nice article del.
I was looking for a name plate to go outside the house, something more than just a number to make it easier for the postman.
Following your SBS I managed to get through with just some of the ingredients you mentioned.
I hadn`t got any A4 but found an old yellow pages the cover of which sufficed.
Havent got a printer so decided to hand write the text, a marker pen worked for this.
yellow ochre paint is something else i was deficient but being the yellow pages, i think that was near enough.
Same goes with varnish but being a glossy cover that seemed to do the trick.
Tin foil was another problem but easily solved when i remembered an old fridge door i had in the shed.
I had an almighty time of it cutting and bending the fridge door but in the end i`m happy with the results.

I am going to try this on my current project, but I think I missed something; what is the pupose of priming the foil?

The foil lets you bend and twist the paper to shape while strengthening it and making the creases stay in place

Matthew its important you only prime the back surface of the foil.
That way you're sticking the printed surface directly to metal not to paint.
The reason for priming rear is it 'kills' the risk of any shine and lets you paint reverse to suit your plinth.

This worked great....but the wife is upset with the new hole in the frig door!


I will try it with using an aluminum soda can for the metal.
