The British publisher "Guideline Publications" has already released several magazines for modellers...

... and - figures concerning - a magazine for the collectors of "Toy Soldiers".

Now comes a real new figure magazine, which is, however - here I have to tip a little water in the wine! - following the market development primarily to fantasy friends ...:

The first edition (September 2019) with English text costs £ 4.95, plus shipping £ 1.27 (for UK).

Those who are interested can order the magazine from the publisher ...:

Interesting move putting Mak on the first cover, I think that was a brave move but maybe not the right one. I love Mak/SF3D ( you can tell by my vids on it) but I don't think its for everyone. Hope it ends up being a good mag and can continue, I will buy it if the articles and pics are of a high quality.

Thanks for this news. Definitely a good idea to have an English language magazine.
However, I am not overwhelmed by the cover or internal contents which, while focused on sci fi and fantasy, seem to suggest too wide a coverage of all figure related genres including wargaming.

+1 to that. If the cover is anything to go by, it's going to be too top-heavy on 28mm Star Wars / Warhammer / Harry Potter type stuff to justify shelling out on it (for me personally anyway, but I suspect also for a lot of other regulars on here).

And from me.....the concept is good and it's credit to the editor Davd Grummit I think for going for it ...agree ref it looks to be more as Steve says

The cover doesn't attract those more who paint military historical IMO ....

Possibly Andrew Beesley is the trench article author

Be interesting to see how this goes

PS In Mil Mod International there's a figure section I believe or at least was the last time I bought it !!

    Not for me.
I can only hope that Jay Martin is gonna do his Illustrated Historical Artist magazine on paper.
It's some amazing magazine only digital at the moment. Fingers crossed for a paper one.
Beside that he has also a Fantasy magazine.
Now I have the choice between historical and Fantasy.
Pictures into the magazine are amazing.
But we can only deside for us self, if we buy it or not. The Warhammer and Starwass fans can excited for this.
Maybe i sound to negative, but just my thoughts on this.

After years of bemoaning the fact that there are so few figure modelling magazines, when one is launched what happens; we moan about it before the first copy is published!!!!

I know David would welcome articles on all genres of figure modelling. He asked me and I completing a piece featuring the work of one of our UK based artists.

No doubt there will be moaning if it doesn't survive.
Come on sharpen those pencils and contribute.

    Hi Rob

That sounds more promising , look forwArd to seeing your article

I think that it deserves to go well and as I said all credit to David

Comments aren't knocking it , more commenting on the cover ...the name itself sounds as though its main focus will be fantasy ....obviously not

Intrigued what Jersey Blues article is as well ...perhaps we can get a look at pages as well

This is the details from the link

Fantasy Figure International Issue 1 OUT 24th OCTOBER 2019
    November 2019
New concept in modelling magazines: Fantasy Figure International the only magazine to bring you the best from the worlds of historical and fantasy figure modelling, the various genres of Sci-Fi.

Drawing on talent from across the world, each issue will feature the best-painted miniatures, as well as providing inspiration and information for your own projects. From the team that brings you Military Modelcraft International, Fantasy Figure International will include extensive step-by-step articles, interviews with leading hobbyists, show reports, modelling galleries and in-depth reviews of new releases in the genres of figure, fantasy and Sci-Fi modelling.

High-quality photography will allow you to marvel and admire miniatures in detail, while the text will give you tips to help you to improve your painting and modelling skills and expand your own hobby ambitions.

Whether it's the combat suits and crawlers of the Maschinen Krieger universe, the dark visions of post-apocalyptic modellers, or the more traditional historical figure painting, Fantasy Figure International will have something for every hobbyist interested in first-rate modelling and truly inspirational miniatures

I understand where you are coming from Rob especially if you are a contributor. It is a sad fact that all of the Historical Figure Magazines have bitten the dust in recent years so one can only assume that something broad based has the only hope of survival and for those interested in Wargaming, Fantasy, Tanks etc I hope it succeeds. I agree with Mark, Jay Martin has the right idea with his PDF format magazine focused primarily on Historical figure modelling. There is so much out there now one questions the need for printed copy.

I take both Figure Mentors magazine and love them.
I print the articles that I want a printed copy of and put them in a three ring binder. I can print 50 pages of colour for $2.99 per month and the ink is free. This is a service provided by H.P (Hewlett Packard) with that monthly fee and all I pay for is the paper. That amounts to $36.00 per year and if I had to buy one ink cartridge it would cost me $70.00 just for the colour cartridge. The cartridges they supply are larger than the ones that you purchase in the store. When your printer runs low on ink they ship a new cartridge and a postage paid return envelope for the old cartridge. They have larger fees for larger prints per month but what I have suits me just fine.
So congratulations on a new magazine and I wish you well.

Not "moaning" Rob, just expressing an opinion. Others may disagree and that's fine, but when anything less than fawning "attaboy" comments get howled down as moaning or negativity (as sometimes happens) then planetFigure runs the risk of becoming planetPlatitudes.

I too wish them well and as an occasional armour & aircraft modeller I occasionally pick up a copy of both SAM and MMI. I'm not doing cartwheels over this one at first sight, but we'll see how it pans out.

Yeah, it's an interesting combination of content. The magazine prominently announces itself as something of interest to fantasy and sci-fi figure painters and modelers, suggesting it's a specialty publication. And yet there are two historical subjects referenced on the cover. It will be interesting to see whether it survives and how long, and if it doesn't evolve towards being a more general publication, aimed at the entire audience of figure painters, regardless of their favorite subjects.

It also reminds me of the development we can see now underway, in which the traditional figure painter community and the newer and growing community of fantasy (ie, sci-fi and wargaming fantasy) painters establish deeper contacts, and begin to merge.

    Prost!
    Brad
