    Hi everyone

A while back I had a message from PF member Pokrad saying he had sent something .......intrigued I was !!!

Well this arrived with a nice note as well ....it was the subject of a sculpting thread by him as well...

    A BIG THANKS to POKRAD

Here's the resin before any reworking

A interesting subject so did a bit of digging around and after Jimbo ( Yes!!! he is involved!!!) removed the excess resin from the back and rebuilt it up as a normal bust I was at least used to .....as well as putting straps and rope at the rear ....more later on this !!??

I set about pushing putty .....I will post iffyvision pics later

For now here's some references ( more to follow !!!)

This is spot on Nap - always been curious about the Austrian-Hungarian army of WW1 as the wife’s late grandfather was an officer in it, she has one uniformed photo of him & I’ll see if she’ll allow me to put it on the site.

The shade of the uniform in the Osprey plates & the colourised photo (yes, I know it’s not completely reliable) looks very similar to French Horizon Blue of WW1 vintage with maybe a little more grey in it.....
    Just my two’pennorth.

    Hi Chris

Reckon that's pretty close ,Osprey looks too blue so graying down "should" work .....a matter of trial and error ..mostly the latter in my case ...lol

Be interested in the colour mix on the Model Cellar piece

    Thanks for commenting

    Hi Nap,
RE:>> Be interested in the colour mix on the Model Cellar piece >>
Well, I don't know the color mix, but the box art was done by Eddie Vandersteen.

    Mookie,
    RE>> Steves sculpt is a real gem.>>
Yes, Steve did a fantastic job !

I have attached a few more pics from different angles so you can see the placement of the equipment and the extent and complexity of the sculpting, ...even down to the delicate feathers on the cap.

Hope that gives you some more reference material.

    Hi Paul

Thank you for the details of the artist , now sadly no longer with us .

Great all round pictures which help a lot , as I said not going to add anything else .......at this time !!

The feathers are good ...wonder what or how Steve did them ?

    Happy benchtime

PS For those that like WW1 and busts Steve has also sculpted these along with a French Cuirassier, a couple of Russians , for me that Uhlan looks great ....anyone want to buy the kids ?

    Hi Nap,

    since you mentioned it:
re:>> For those that like WW1 and busts Steve has also sculpted these along with a French Cuirassier, a couple of Russians , for me that Uhlan looks great >>
And Steve did a nifty series of Crimean busts in 120mm (1/16) scale too. We have a nice little feature on our website that allows you to sort/filter by sculptor. You can see all of Steve's work (for Model Cellar) here:
    https://modelcellar.com/product-category/sculptors/steve-leadley/

Plus, I have several others from Steve (French Alpini, Belgian Infantry, Austrian Uhlan) that I have not put rubber around yet.

    ...on a more somber note...
RE:>> Thank you for the details of the artist , now sadly no longer with us .>>
oh no?!? I'm saddened to hear such news. I knew Eddy wasn't well. I contacted him last year to paint the Belgian Steve had sculpted (thinking since Eddy was from Belgium...) and he told me he wasn't well at that point, and that he could not guarantee he could finish the piece for me. I was really taken back to hear such news and him being so frank. But now to hear that he is no longer with us saddens me.

    regards,
    Paul

This seems like an interesting uniform, that blue may be achievable by using Army paimter wolf grey with a tad of dark sky blue, but i would have to experiment.
Great subject and keep up the great work my friend!
