I got this figure some time ago. I cannot remember the creator or where I got it. It was titled Achilles on the box. I am not an expert about Achilles, but it looks more like a Spartan or Greek Hoplite Commander to me. Painted in enamels and acrylics.

    Hi Ben

Thanks for sharing the pictures , be nice to see larger versions as well

However looking at the figure looks 90mm and is it metal ? I think I remember this on a cover of Military Modelling magazine ..certainly remember a advert ...can't think of the company though ...possibly Seagull ? .....others might know

Your painting looks good perhaps a wash over the armour ,

Groundwork looks detailed and nicely painted

    Thanks for sharing

    Happy benchtime

Nice, could do with some more large scale ancients.

They were the Υπασπιστές ("hypaspistes" the greek word for who are the shield bearers). In a way the title means the bearers of the royal shield, the royal guards. After they covered their shields with silver they changed their name into Αργυράσπιδες ("Argyraspides", the "Silvershields"). They were an elite/veteran division of the hellenistic armies, unbeatable in combat even when its members turned the age of sixty.
