I wanted something a bit different than the buff pixie suit so I took a deep breath and tried Denison camo.
Also fancied the white roll neck sweater similar to the Navy wears which I thought would break up the earth tones.
I'd never tried fair hair before either so I thought I'd try that.
I took more pictures than a pikey art thief for this post and butchered them in photobucket, so apologies if the different contrasts hurts the eyes.

Steve at Reedees Miniatures provided the real scale RTR cap badge and very nice it was dealing with him.

Flesh is Vallejo acrylic preshaded and oils on top.
The colours are Vallejo German camo beige with a touch of carmine red.
U.S. Dark green with green grey for highlights and black for shadows
Burnt umber with german camo beige for highs and German camo black for shadows.

I pin wash all my war figures to give the added depth but also I feel it binds the contrasting lines quite well. I came from a model armour background and used pinwashes extensively for the same reason and in my preferred style of painting it carries fine to figures.

    After shading,
The shading does give some depth but if you compare it with the pinwashed pic I think it just goes that bit further.

Your decision to go with the denison camo works really well with the white roller neck, everything about it looks great, excellent job mate.

    Hi Grant!

I like very much the way you painted this bust because adding the camo pattern gives a look more distinctive.
The smooth transitions on the flesh tones are really great congrats.

Looks to me that what you set out to accomplish was pulled off very nicely. The flesh tones are subtle, the denison pattern is realistic including the wool looking material on the inside collar, and of course the use of the more true to scale RTR badge. Top notch work Grant (y)!!

Hey good looking version & neat experiments mate! Really does make this one stand out from rest.
Well done & thanks for sharing, any chance you can do some bigger photos? Worth keeping a record of these.
