William Marshal was the second son of a 12th century English Knight who rose to fame on the tounment fields of France. At his first tournement he captured three knights for ransom. His prowess gained him great wealth and the patronage of Queen Elenor of Aquitaine.
William loyally served King Henry II and three of his sons.He once unhorsed Richard The Lionheart when Richard rebelled against his father.
Richard forgave him and when he became king granted him the hand of the of Isabelle De Clare in marriage through which he gained extensive lands in Wales and Ireland.
King John made William Earl of Pembroke and after John was suceeded by the young Henry III William became regent of England and foiled an invasion by France. He is buried in the Templer church in London [of Da Vinci code fame]

Very cool, Peter. I am a William Marshal devote me-self :)

Have you read any of Graham Shelby's historical fiction? He wrote several excellent books about William, Richard 1, John and Henry. Books are long out of print but can occassionally find them on line.

    Anyway... nice figgie.

    Peter,
I think you did a great start. The heraldy looks good.
But i think you must fix the pole of the flag. It is curved.

The Elizabeth Chadwick books are a good read as well. How is it that such an influential and powerful figure is so little known of? Arguably he was more famous and influential in his day than Churchill.

Great figure. I have done a 120mm version, but gave it away so cannot post my figure!
