Transport Case help needed

I found a local woodworker who made me a few bases recently. I want him to make me a nice looking transport case but not sure where to start. I’ve seen pics online of wooden cases where the figures were fixed with poster putty. Does that really work? Also I’ve seen where the bottom tray appears to slide out. Is that practical for heavy figures? I would appreciate any advice on how it should be constructed.

Best way is if the wood bases of your figures have threaded inserts in them
Then, you simply bolt them to a bottom removable plywood tray
I have built myself such a wooden box and even have another one where the exterior box is an actual Pelican case.
Better than putty and better than magnets

Alex is correct. Best way to do it.

Yes, do use the method Alex recommends.
I do the same and have been called a dinosaur for it by some show regulars using bluetac.
Yes, it takes a few minutes longer packing and unpacking, but why the rush in a hobby that requires so much patience?
And I feel comfortable that my figures are firmly fixed even if the case is held sideways or upside down even. Do challenge the bluetac believers on that... ;-)

    Cheers,

Sounds good. So does your base board have spaced holes so you can screw in the bolts as needed for flexibility? I’m also wondering if screwing in the threaded hardware would cause separation of the wooden block of the base from its glued on beveled edge wood.

I use a base board with more holes than needed, for some flexibility in locating the painted pieces. I do not use a threaded insert in bases. Just a drilled hole in which goes a normal wood screw. A bit crude, but pieces are solidly fixed. Using a threaded insert is way nicer, and you can use wing nuts for fixing, so no tools (my cruder method requires a screwdriver).

    Hi

Alex has the best and safest method for sure ...ideal for long distance travelling to shows

As I am useless with any form of DIY ........

I use a lot of blutac and careful driving for mine when going to local shows

......always relieved to get there .......and back
