After introducing myself to magic-sculp 2 years ago and trying my hand at conversions and minor sculpting,i'm now beginning to feel more comfortable with certain ares of sculpting,nothing major at this stage,but I've had some great help and tips along the way from Carl Reid,Stuart Hale and Graham Scollick,faces are going to be the big problem but i'm gaining in confidence with each piece I do,anyway back to this project,this is a conversion of the CGS bust produced by Graham at CGS and sculpted by Pavol Ovecka,it depicts a French Infantry soilder from the revoulution period dated 1796.
I've always been fascinated by the french revolution and the colourful and shabby uniforms and clothing worn during the period,its like anything goes and theres no correct uniform style as items were stolen,robbed and borrowed during the period so anything goes really.
For this piece ive decided to change a few things and add some things as well.
I've added the top half of a musket with bayonet attached,these were items from my spares box as was the modified sabre briquette.
I've also added a scratchbuilt drinking gourd,these sort of items being very popular with French soilders,the cord used is lead wire,this wire was also used on the scratchbuilt epaulettes plus some solder wire as well.
for the headdress I opted for the bonnet / Forage cap,this I sculpted from MS (magic-sculp) and detailed again with wire to simulate the piping.
I also added longer hair with MS,soilders of the period had long hair as well as short.
I had to add another crossbelt with MS to support the sabre,again this was done with MS,i removed the sabre hilt straps for this project.
The bust itself is beautifully sculpted and cast by pavol and graham in its original style,people who have come to know me over the years know how I like a change and challenge and its just a personel preference.
I have added a scar to the busts right eye which I will paint as a defective white eyeball with the scar through the eye.
Just a tassle to add now to the bottom of the bonnet flap
I also added some tears here and there on the sculpted pieces.
I would recommend the bust to anyone interested in the revolution.
