    Hello all,

I finished the vignette. It has been given Neige, the french name for snow.
Not so good pictures and very enlarged, but it gives an reasonable impression.

    Robert Jan,

I saw this last weekend at our show. I discussed it with some of the members of AMSS and we all agree. The sculpting is fabulous, but you have to work on your painting. We thought that the painting was only in base color.
If i sound to harsh forgive me, but bringing down such a nice sculpt is a pitty.
You should shade and highlight the yellow, and do the same on the dog.

    Marc.

    Hello Marc,

Thanks for the compliments and the feedback.
I agree on the painting, but I must say, coming to the AMMS show was a real eyeopener to me! And I have to work on the paintjob I know.
My main source for learning to paint are internet and magazines and seeing all those figures in reality was kind of a shock to me.
I learned so much last weekend that it gives me an almost complete different view on figure painting,

It was most of the time like this...:

"ahaaa, so that's how they do it...".

I won't work further on this one, to me it's done, I am already working on an other figure, alot of sculpting to do, but i am eager to start painting.

And maybe I just gotta move to Belgium:)

    Till next time! (Eindhoven?)

    Well,
    here is what I find good;
A project done from start to finish
Sculpting and modifying figures to suit
Groundwork being snow, not always the easiest to do.

The painting you have already picked up on; you will try more, and with feedback from others, you will likely improve rapidly - you have the patience to do it!

Snow on the ground, with foot prints through it, can be rendered a bit by color, to help pick out the footsteps - bit hard to see right now (restrictions of photo technology)

I have seen some snow dioramas where they base coat the ground with a (very) light blue, then add snow on top. where some one has stepped, this helps carry the idea of deeper snow/ compressed snow.

I've only seen snow once, trudged through it for three days, but fresh snow seems different to snow under traffic.
(In the comics, they often sketch in some darker shades to carry this idea in 2 dimensions)
[of course, others may disagree or offer contrary opinions, which I would welcome:D]

You have tackled a scene that is fairly challenging, particularly the ground work.

Looking forward to more of your work, Robert. Good so far

    cheers
