Hi all,

Here is a my WIP for this superb Samurai from Pegaso sculpted by V. Konnov.
Still a lot to do everywhere on the figure including the face, red armor, last row of stitches, pants,
highlights and shadows on blue laces, sandals, blue ribbons on legs, etc.

All acrylics.

A little closeup on the silk pants (still not finished)

There is a flag that will get glued to the read armor plate. I still find that area too huge without any form of detail work. So it was only basically shaded and highlighted. I'm still thinking of the design that I will paint on the rear armor plate (the back) and on all the other smaller armor plates... I'll go all out on this figure.. Well worth it !

This figure is wonderful. Yes it does cost a lot of money but since the assembly is complicated and it is a 90mm, it will keep you busy for a long time. But, you will never feel unstatisfied by the challenge to come since there are so many different textures to paint.

How did you do the floral pattern? I mean technically, what brush size and so on? They look so consistent, just stunning!

The figure was painted using only one brush size : number 1 W&N serie 7
And I feel that you can do the same even with a size 2. What does matter is the point. Do not use 000 or 00 brush : not enough hair to hold the paint (that's only my opinion, a lot of people have success with those smaller brushes).

Most of the flower petals were first either outlined with dark brown paint or completely painted with the same paint.
Then you simply go over your dark outline with a lighter paint (red, grey, etc) but trying to keep the dark outline untouched.
Then you add highlights and shadows the usual way or by painting thin lines in order to suggest fabric thread.

I firmly believe that acrylics are the best for this technique.

And do not thin the acrylics too much. In fact you can use them straight from the bottle.

By the way, the same technique was used in order to paint the blue ribbon that holds the kabuto (head piece) and the blue laces : the 'rope aspect' is only painted and not sculpted.

Small update.
Sorry for the crappy ipad pictures.
Hands have been drilled and cast naginata replaced by a real steel one.
All brass details on the steel naginata are painted. Having a detached weapon will permit me also to put the figure in a more aggressive stance with the edge part of the weapon behind him and over his head.
A lot to do.. Only the face is finished
