I have now moved on to the 2nd bust which will form the 2nd part of the testudo.
I have included an optio for this as I have seen images of optio's forming part of the testudo, for this one I wanted the optio shouting, for this I used a head from my spares box,,the spare part was of the same scale so the helmet wouldn't be a problem, although I did thicken out the cheeks to support the cheek gaurds better, the plume is attached to the helmet by a very small resin pin included in the kit, this wasn't going to work for me as it could break easy so I replaced this with some metal rod of the same thickness,i can add detail to it once the rod is being painted.
I don't need to do anything else to the body and wolfskin as this is a one piece resin kit and I will paint it accordingly.
I added some fringe hair to the forehead area and around the corners around the temple area plus a little reworking of the nose until I was happy.
This was one of Youngs earlier busts as you can tell by the resin colour of the body.

Just an FYI, crest front to back would be an Optio, Centurion crests ran side to side. Nice work!

Jason is correct with the crest explanation. TBH, the Young Mins bust is something of a 'Frankenstein' bust in terms of accuracy of Roman uniform. There is no image (period or modern interpretation) I have ever seen of an Optio (which this would be with that crested helmet) wearing a 'muscled' metal or boiled leather cuirrasse; armour which was normally worn only by very senior ranks in a legion such as Tribunes and above.

Not being a figures version of a 'rivet counter' here Brian but just so you know in advance.

Great work so far (as always).

    Hi Brian.

It's not criticism in any way mate -far from it - just an 'heads up' that the YM bust isn't what it purports to be.

    Cheers Brian.
