I have just started a new figure and i thought i would post this as a work in progress project,the figure is an Andrea 90mm white metal figure of the little corporal himself,he is depicted in his familiar grey redigote which he wore on most campaigns although he had been known to wear blue on occasions,the tunic could be depicted as either Chasseur Green which was his favourite uniform or Grenadier Blue which he was said to have worn on his abdication in 1814,i have chose to paint mine in the Chasseur Green.
The kit comes in 14 parts and when assembled gives a very good likeness of the emperouer himslf.
I started by cleaning all the parts and removing the flash and mould lines and final polishing was completed with wire wool attachment in my mini drill,i then drilled holes in the feet and left boot to which metal pins we're attached for a more secure bond,i have attached some photo's of my progress from the first session,the coat's back and sides i have attached with blue-tac just to see how the fit,these coat parts wont be attached until the tunic and breeches have been painted.

Continuing on from my previous post i have drilled the holes in the heels of the boots which will accomodate the spurs in the final stages of the figures completion,i have also added more body to the collar of the overcoat,i thought the kit part was a little under size,most pictures of napoleon show the coat collar as being very high,i replicated this by adding a roll milliput and blending it in to the original kit part.
I had some problems with fitting the head as i would'nt quite sit right even though i drilled and pinned it,the worry for me here was i like to paint the head seperate and attach once finished but because the fit was bad i decided to permantly attach the head from the start as i might damage the paint work trying to fit it later.
I Primmed all the parts with games wokshop skull white,this was completed in three thin coats,i quickened the drying process between coats with my hairdryer (i'm bald by the way so its only used for modeling only),
I then left all the parts for a couple of hours to dry off.

I thought i would now concentrate on creating the groundwork for the figure,although this figure could be portayed in any setting i decided i would show him in a field setting,the figure is sculpted with his small field glass in his right hand so one could assume he is surveying the battlefield.
My groundwork is made up of milliput which i lay in and mould on the chosen base,this is then followed by brushing on a mix of white glue and water which will help the grit and small stones adhere better.
The grit and small stones which will create the texture of the groundwork i collected outside my house,it costs nothing and is just as good as the products you buy,i have a large tub of this which will last me years,i use an old tea strainer to sieve and seperate the fine grit from the stones,once this is done i apply to the wet base mixture.
Before the milliput starts to dry i sit the figure onto the groundwork to get a natural sit,the figure is then removed and primed

Continuing on from my last post (apollogies for being a while ago) i now set about undrcoating the face and hat,the face was undrcoated using games workshop flesh colour which was applied in 2x thin coats,the hat was also undercoated in a mixture of games workshop black with a tiny ammount of medium blue added.
All finishing colours to the face was completed using oil colours,the colours i use i have listed below.
Tittanium white / Gold ochre / venetian red / burnt sienna / burnt umber / flesh tint,various tones can be achieved using different combinations of the colours i've listed.
The hat was painted to give it a weathered look,so i mixed lamp black and burnt umber as the base and highlighted by adding small ammounts of tittanium white to the mix working wet on wet,i needed to do this a few times to get the effect i wanted,the hair was paintd using small quantities of black and umber and gently lighted to add the highlights.
The acrylic basecoat i have now added to the collar,surtout,eppulettes which i will be working on next.

Please find attached latest photos of my present project,all painting completed with oils over acrylic undercoats.

Apollogies for the delay since my last post but i had to take some time out through ill health,however its great to be back again.
I have resumed my painting of the andrea 90mm napoleon and since my last post i have now compleated the lower half of the figure,this involved the painting of the breeches and boots,i will have another session with the boots in a couple of days so i can begin to weather them and blend them into the ground work,as you can see from the photos i am still working on the right hand holding the telescope,this i will finish off later this evening.
the spurs will be added last to the boots when all other painting is complete along with the sash ornament and sword scabbard.
The final painting will be the redingote or grey riding coat,i have applied 2 thin coats of battleship grey from the games workshop range as a base to which i will then apply the final oil colours,once completed i will post these as well.
