I'm working on a mounted Scots Grey figure from United Empire Miniatures and need to make the above as there were none supplied with the kit, can any of you experienced guys offer any tips or techniques for doing this in 54mm?

I had some photos at one time about how to do this, but don't know where I stored them. I'll try to describe the process; Take some small gauge ( something like a single strand of regular lamp cord for 54mm) copper wire and wrap it around an appropriately sized brass rod. Twist the ends until you have formed what resembles an eye-bolt. Slip the ring off of the rod and clip the twisted end off at an appropriate length. Drill a corresponding hole into your object and place the twisted end into the hole, and fasten with CA glue.

Slings - heavy gauge printer paper. Buckles could be scavenged from a historex kit or could be relatively easily shaped from Duro - cut flattened Duro into a square and impress the buckle detail into the square.

Thanks guys for your suggestions, the photo etch SBS was useful Carl I remember making a mental note of that when I first saw it, however with my brain the note didn't last long:D I'll try Telford to see if anyone carries anything similar google search didn't come up with anything in the UK. Thinking about it since posting perhaps I could do it with very thin Plastic Card?

Thanks again you've got the two remaining brain cells kick started.

    Hi Keith

I can bring some 4x4 and 6x6 mesh along to Telford but I don't think I'll be able to get any of the 4x6 in time.

    Cheers

For straps, get some electrical tape from a 99p store. It's strong, utterly flexible and will last a lifetime.

Lead/metal foil from wine bottles, or from X-ray blanks (from my dentist) for straps, and fine wire--I think you Commonwealth citizens call it fuse wire?-for buckles. If it's a scale model aircraft, I might also use masking tape for straps.

    Prost!

I just bought a roll of "tooling aluminum" foil from the art store. About the same consistancy as the little pieces they throw in with most kits. The roll is 10 feet long and 18 inches wide for less than $10... enough to make straps and belts for about 1000 figs. Comes in copper too, but the same size roll costs about $80:nailbiting:
24 gauge copper wire works well for buckles. Can be left with a round cross section or flattened after shaping.
