Looks superb Dave from the camo job, ident markings, down to the smoke effects and the field , have to say I had a little chuckle at the grass pics as it reminded me of some I did and it's like laying turf in miniature (Only I think laying the real stuff is faster lol).

That looks so realistic, great job. What did you use for the grass?? Is it a branded product?? Or a Dr Force Inc. creation??

Looking forward to the next stage. Could I suggest one thing when you finish the plane mate, take a photograph outside in black & white with nothing behind to show the scale. I bet it looks like its just been plucked out of a history book.

Thanks for your comments and continued interest.

The grass is a mixture of horse hair and cotton fibres, dyed in variable colours and then mixed up. I stuck I down in lumps with pva glue before using a tooth brush to raise it up.

I have flattened the grass in one direction to reflect the sliding, the reference photos I have do not show skid marks near the resting point.

Richie, Jazz Steve and Steve, thanks for your comments and interest. Telford is a defo, so will make sure I have nothing on for the Saturday.

I had a very productive weekend with the final weathering, groundwok and canopy glazing completed. I just need to paint the engine and the figures before its finally completed. Nice weather in the UK this morning so took some much better photo's:-

Excellent work on this Dave. The grasses look extremely realistic.

Just a question: maybe you already addressed this in an earlier post but shouldn't there be 'skid marks' on the field, where the plane slid to its final stop? ( so glad to be able to use skid marks in its proper context).

I have been asked the "skid marks" question about a gazillion times lol. It's a myth that the aircraft would churn up the ground behind it. Have a google of crashed me109's and you will see very little if any damage to the ground directly behind the aircraft. The damage is done on impact and then it skids on the undercarriage until it comes to a halt.

I hav flattened the grass behind but given the multitude of reference photos I have. The ground is surprisingly unscathed!!

That groundwork is really amazing!

Just one point would be that the a/c appears to be floating a bit, it dosen't look rammed into the ground. It maybe just because you are just seeing how it will look and it's not permanently locked into position yet?

Anything under the a/c like air intakes etc woud be made of thin metal and would be crushed or ripped off in the event of a forced landing. By far the heaviest part of a fighter was the engine, and that should be flat on the deck with everything else tagging along for the ride.

Can I just take this opportunity say that you create some of the most exciting projects I have ever seen!

Thanks for your very kind comments and excellent support. The bird was not fixed in the pics! When I did the ground work I stupidly put a rock where it sat so it is sort of balanced in the photos. Now I have fixed it the 109 is suitably sat on the ground with a slight raise to the rear. You cannot see the air intake due to the grass and it looks more weighty and natural.

The engine is now painted and the figures are primed so it's back to some painting this weekend.

Ps are you going to Telford??
