I would like to share with my fellow planeteers my latest work which is the 250mm resin bust from Castle Miniatures - YS250-05,i am about 75% completed with just some final touch ups and the painting of the french Tricolor to finish.
I have taken a different approach with painting busts and i try to incorporate some thing extra during these projects, with this bust i decided to add a scratchbuilt drum and french tricolor flag for a backdrop, the drum was made from brass sheet / plasticard / plastic-strip / and brass picture hanging wire, the tricolor was made using pewter sheet and plastic rod with a steel rod inserted inside the rod for added strength.
The drum itself was an old empty ink pot from stormtroopers, this was the correct size and scale and i just added the plastic and brass using contempory pictures as a guide during assembly,i have added some pictures of the different stages.
During the assembly of the bust i decided i wanted to add some wear and tear to the bust as this was quite evident during the revolution with clothes being either of poor quality or torn and ragged,i decided to add some tears to the bicorn and a wound tear on the left arm of the bust, the tear on the bicorn and arm was created using miliputt and once this was about 50% dry i opend the areas out with a scalpel knife, some areas of the bicorn i chipped out as if the material and gone completly.
I must say the sculpting of the face is beautifully done and i'm so glad i purchased it now.
The bust was undercoated in GW chaos black spray and once dry i added appropriate acrylic colours from the GW and Humbrol railway range and the bust was then finished in oils.
    Items used :
    Games Workshop Acrylic paints
    Humbrol Acrylic (Model railway colours)

Halfords Grey primer (Undercoating of pewter sheet)
Wood pedastel base - Ron Tamburrini (www.simplesite.com/ron-tamburrini)

I really like what your doing with this bust, it's a great figure on it's own but you have really added a further dimension to it and made it into a very dramatic piece, I think you may have started a trend with this particular bust, thanks for sharing it with us.
    Cheers

When I use a black ground it washes the colour out even more  What lens are you using to get the close ups

I say : this is a fantastic job and thanks a lot for sharing with us all the way you did it
The guy you show is a lucky one; a bullet in the hat, sabre cuts on the belt, on the cloth ( chest level) and a cut on the left arms
    Like it very much

I like it a lot Brian, beautiful composition and great idea. The addition of drum and flag. (If you need infantry flags of the revolutionary period I have a book full of them.)
You have made a very clever solution for the drum.
Did you use a plastic sheet to make the flat skin of the drum?

Ron,my camera is a Cannon Powershot A530,it has an optical x4 zoom and is a 5.0 mega pixels, its not a flashy high tech camera but it suits me for modeling work.

Hope your keeping well bud (y)

Hi Edorta,i'm glad you liked it,for the flag i'm just going for the tricolor colour,i know what you mean about the flags,i found quite a few of them on the web, there are so many different styles and patterns,as for the drumskin this is plastic card which i cut and sanded to shape, once it was fitted into the drum case all gaps were filled with milliput.(y)

Outstanding Brian. Sometimes 'add-ons' can completely ruin a great sculpt.
This takes this beautiful bust to another level altogether, an inspiration.
    Oh! and perfectly atmospheric painting.
