    Hello fellow Planeteers.

I would like to show you my latest bust that I have completed today. It is Young Miniatures La Hire. This is an excellently sculpted bust that was a joy to paint. I was given this by a really good friend (You know who you are) and I look forward to hearing his comments as well as everyone else.

The bust was painted in oils for the face and acrylics for the armourwork although I have also used oil washes on the armour. There is I think a definate resemblance to the actor Brian Blessed and I have tried to emphasize this.

    I hope you like it.

I love this bust John, so full of character and you've done a great job on him.

I'm more of a full figures man, but this one does tempt me I must admit.

    Hi John ,

My goodness me you paint quick , this looks really great , love the armour , really nicely done , like all the marks you have put on it the damage and used look , an effective use of washes .....sometimes I use Vallejo or Tamiya smoke as well on Armour ....it settles around studs etc and can look really god if used carefully .

The face does look like Mr Blessed ..so well done there like the beard ..perhaops a little dark wash to bring out the details a bit more but only IMO !!!!

Did I see the word ACRYLICS......Oh happy days a convert :)

Glad you enjoyed the bust:eek: and I look forward to seing more of you great work even if it is in oils ;)

Very nice John I think you've captured Mr Blessed well, only thing I would add is a little more red to the cheeks (it looks like maybe the lighting washed it out a tad). Great overall though and I agree with Kevin ditch the oils and come over to the dark side :)

Thanks for the great comments guys. My wife Beverley agreed with you Kev, about the beard. As you know she's my greatest critic. The photos make the figure look lighter than it actually is. I have not used a flash, just an overhead light source, but the armour is quite dark really. I shall definately take the advice about the studs as I had noticed that some of them do look a bit under detailed. Kev, dont get too excited about me using acylics, I am still an oily but I can't paint armour in oils yet.
Thanks Andrew. I did add a little crimson oil to the cheeks this time but it seems to have got lost in the shading.
I need to practice my photography more I think as my pics always look a bit too light. Or is it a case of the camera never lies?
