Great bit of painting Brian, one of my favourite busts of the past few years this one.

Can you explain your method on how you did the metal on the helmet please ?

Quite straightforward Steve.I've used all different methods in the past, but I've settled for the following
After priming,I brush on Dark Stars Baroque acrylic metal.I usually give it 2 or 3 thinned coats to get good coverage.I then mix black oils with some burnt umber added, and with a loaded brush, cover all the armour.I then start dabbing the oils off with kitchen towel until I get the desired effect I'm after. You can get different effects depending what colour and how much you add into the black oil paint.I then highlight where needed with the Baroque acrylic paint. If shading is needed its just a matter of using slightly thinned down black oil.
Use good quality kitchen roll, and you can even stipple with a large brush for a rougher effect.Once you've applied the acrylic metal base, you can try all different mixtures of oils,as if you don't like the result, just take the oils off with thinners and go again.
