    Fort Gregg 2 April 1865
After Breaching the trenches at Petersburg, the 5th Vermont under Charles G Gould, stormed Fort Gregg.
Defending Fort Gregg was 28th North Carolina. They held as long as they could to allow other Confederate units to withdraw, When Union troops yelled at Confederate Pvt Lawrence Berry to "drop the lanyard" he responded "Shoot and be Damned!" he pulled the lanyard and 12 union soldiers shot him dead...

the heads and muskets are from Shenandoah, (thanks Paul) but I am in touch with Paul at Shenandoah with the view of possibly releasing the vignette as a set.

Coming along nicely, this would be a lifetime project for me.
Fort Gregg otherwise known as the Confederate Alamo. I visited there a couple years ago. There's not much there but a couple of infoboards. Of course the Richmond-Petersburg area overflows with Civil War sites.
