I thought if I replied at all on Kaz's post WIP Critique 1/24(75mm) Zundapp riders project, it would be taking his post in the wrong direction...

My comment was "Has any of the digital community thought about providing reduced size manikins the joints of which can be bent to suit?"

    His response was -
"Japanese figure company Max Factory done a closer concept of the figure, named "Figma". which is designed for cartoonists and illustrators. They are a bit cartoonish to me but I like its concept.

Developing the mannequins for scale model figure sculpting sounds interesting."

"Figma" is not what I had in mind for scratch building / sculpting. I can see how the illustrators and cartoonists would benefit.

What I'd really like to see is a mannequin without head, hands or feet, specifically designed for the scratch builder and sculptor. Finish of the torso, arms and legs could be left crude and simple by design - you're going to cover all that with putty! Most of the mannequins I've seen have too much detail and far too much thickness, not allowing for the sculpting of clothing!! Mannequins should be designed to enable use of heads, weapons, field equipment castings provided by certain makers whose consistent sizing and proportions make the bits 'interchangeable'. There are only a few makers that control their sizing well enough so that any of their heads & hands would work. Priced at $20.00 or less for a 1/16th size mannequin and equivalent prices for other common sizes.

    All the best,
    Dan
