    hello

i´ve recently finished this figure. Sorry for the pics, i know they´re not precisely the best. I´ll try to take better pictures when the base is finished.

I´ve painted it entirely with humbrol enamels, and tryed to practice with contrast in the colors. I´m satisfied with the results and i hope the base will be ok.

    regards

    Andres Fonseca Wilder

    Andres,

It seems that you did a good paintjob. But i have my doubts about your shading. What i can see ( i hope it are the pictures) is that you shade with black. Well there are better ways to shade then adding black to your color. Look around the site and you can see how other people manage it. A very good Humbrol painter is Guy Herrick, Bill Horan to mention some names. Ask them your questions..
But above all, keep painting, you are on the right track.

Excellent work Andres. I often use black for shading certain colors and you have done an excellent job with your shading. Keep up the super work.

I like the figure. It looks familiar; who's is it? Unfortunately, the pics are too dark to really give much feedback.

You can see the shading and blending a little better with the below photo.

    Thanks guys!

i know the pics can be better. I´ll see what i can do.
Guy, Marc told me you paint with humbrol too. What can you recomend for shading and lighting red?

In the final highlighting I carefully add a drop of white to 5 drops of red (careful not to go pink) and gently dry-brush the final high lights accross the folds. This mixture is done on the back of an old business card so that the oil is soaked out of the mixture leaving the mixed pigment (hence the name "dry-brush" using the semi dry color to apply over the folds. It takes a while and I used to practice on spare arms / parts until I got the technique down with dry-brushing.

If it helps, I sometimes do red a bit darker than I would expect and then it gives you more room to make highlights. I shade red using green and highlight with a pale orange.... ;)

    Andres,
Nice figure , I think this looks like a old Hinchcliffe figure from a while back ,
red is such a hard colour to shade but keep going , nice to see your work .

    thanks guys for your words...
I don´t have very much experience painting with reds, so this was a good starting. I´ll see if i can improve the technic next time

    cheers
