The piece itself is beautifully sculpted with lovely attention to the folds and creases by the sculptor, the fit of parts is very good with very little filling required, I did however opt for drilling holes in the arm areas and inserted steel pins for added strength, I also added a small pin in the figures right shoulder so the ensign could be fixed more securely rather than just glueing it, both hands also received pins and holes were drilled in the cuff areas to accommodate these.
I purchased the figure at euro militaire in 2011 from Stuart but just hadn't got round to starting it due to other projects, however the Hundred Days is my favourite subject and I've done a few related subjects recently and I thought I would add Stuarts to the collection.
All pieces are cast in a light grey resin apart from the Ensign staff which is produced in brass rod.

I'm very pleased that Stormtroopers released a figure from the 28th rgt ft. as they were one of the better known regiments in Wellingtons Army in Belgium, distinctly recognizable by their Stovepipe shako, it was the only regiment to be mentioned by name during wellingtons waterloo dispatch.

The regiment fought with great distinction on Both days but particularly at Quatre Bras on the 16th June where it came under heavy attacks from Gen Pire's Cavalry Division consisting of the 5th and 6th cheavuex lancers, during the attacks the 1st battalion 28th never wavered and sustained all the French cavalry through at them, they took up their position south of the crossroads in square formation to replace the 42nd black watch as they had been broken and badly mauled with heavy losses.

The figure was primed using Halfords grey car primer and painted using oils over acrylic undercoats added a wet and muddy appearance for the groundwork with paintbrush bristles added to replicate some of the rye which was evident on this particular area of the battlefield, a discarded water bottle was added from my spares box to add some interest to the front foreground.

As most will be aware now I do like to add a weathered look to the figure, the ensign as well as the figure would have been subject to heavy smoke and dirt / mud at this time all of which will add to the weathered look of the figure.

The kit is available to purchase from Stuart at Stormtroopers - Ref ST120 / 21 - www.stormtroopers.co.uk
The base was provided by Ron Tamburrini from his excellent range @ www.simplesite.com/ron-tamburrini

I would just like to thank Stuart for providing me with a replacement epaulette (y)

    All comments and criticism welcome.

Hi Nap,The colour ensign did'nt prove to be as much of a problem as i first thought, after priming i airbrushed the shaded areas first with Tamiya XF-68 Nato Brown mixed with XF-3 Flat yellow for the mid shadow and added more Nato Brown for the deeper shadows,i did this so when it came to applying the oil colours they would have a solid base colour to adhere to,oil painting with yellow used to be a problem for me as the undercoat always came through, but now i've managed to remedy this by applying the shades in acrylic.
The oil mixes where as follows:
Base - Windsor Yellow + 5% Yellow Ochre
Mid Shade - Base Mix + 10% Mars Orange
Deep Shade - Base Mix + 25% Mars Orange / 5% Windsor Blue
    Highlight - Base + 5% Tittanium White
    2nd Highlight - Base + 15% Tittanium White

The cords were painted seperatley and attached once the main ensign was finished

I dont mean to confuse with the mixtures, i've only added percentage's as a rough guide to how much medium was added,i hope this has been helpful to you

Brian excellent painting and well worth the wait . That's some hardcore realistic weathering mate and if any figure truly deserves the title "After the battle" this one does.(y)(y)

Too much! I love it. Great work all over, superb realization of the weathering, wounded knee, flag, small details etc.
Great presentation and historical context review. Great work.

your method sounds good. One little minor point Brian ,the sword knot seems to be defying gravity ;) :)
