    Hi everyone

    This is the next on the bench

    Sculpted by Derek Holmes and cast in very limited numbers scale is about 250/300mm

    The master is now owned by a good friend Norman Otty

    Why this one l..saw Norman's version in a Historical Miniatures Magazine remembered I had it sat at the back of the shelf of shame !

    Currently he is all base coated up , might do to a Roundhead Regt as I like the orange sash but of course he could be painted as a Royalist as well

    Still to decide on coat colour ...all ideas welcome...sash colour is not fixed

    Using the Scalecolour tubed Artists acrylics for this ...like them so far

    Hat finished , eyes done

    Next flesh, teeth , hair, then coat, armour belt , sash

    ...well that's the plan!

    Socially distanced shopping???....That's what you call mental imaging...And that's usually handled by Mrs. Palmer and her five daughters.:happy: Looks like a fun piece to do and looks good so far. The "teef"..I mean toof... really adds to the character.

    Relation ...of course ...he's good looking ....had this for years and seeing Normans in that magazine pushed my brain cell ( note singular ) .....

    As much as I tried no medals although senior officers were sometime given medallions for their service

    Bit of a update ...flesh all done .....sash was orange but wasn't happy with it so I've gone from a Roundhead to Royalist ....working on it now ...getting there

    The use of orange for Parliamentarian and red for Royalist sashes is a bit of a generalisation perpetrated by Victorian and Edwardian historians. In actual fact, both colours along with many others, were used by both sides, dependent on the whim of the Colonel who raised the regiment. For example, the local Royalist regiment, Bagots, raised at Blithfield Hall in Staffordshire, used pale blue sashes as a contrast to purple coats. So anything goes, really!(y)

    Nice work so far Nap. It's a strange sculpture, at first glance it seems to be quite bad (understand rugged, unsuccesful). In fact, on a detailed look, I've changed my mind - I think it's a very good character study. I'm quite curious how it will be completed in your submission ...

    Great to have you on board , I understand your initial thoughts but as you say a character .....I " should " have it finished very soon so will post pics ...much better ones !!!

    I am enjoying this despite the age ( of the sculpt not me...LOL )

    Question to you .....how would you have painted the armour

    Thanks for the post appreciate it , absolutely agree as you say both colours by both sides , Bagots woukd certainly make a colourful version not only of this but any appropriate ECW piece

    Hi Nap

    When it comes to armor, it's not quite good to ask me a question:( , I'm really just a sculptor, I'm fascinated by painting, and I'd like to try it once, but at the moment I'm completely out of knowledge in this field. I really like to look at the work of others, but I can't contribute myself.

    As for my presence here on the forum, it's hard. I now work 10 or 12, sometimes more hours a day. Sometimes I get to look at a few things here or on FB, but it takes more freshness and concentration than I'm able to give at the moment.

    Unfortunately, I was forced to stop working in real sculpture altogether because I have long-term eye problems when working at close range, even through magnifying glass. These problems got worse a few months ago, so I stopped publishing the wip of my project " The Combat of the Thirty ". I had to completely switch to 3D sculpting because I have no problems looking at the monitor. But I have to learn to work with Zbrush, and also work, so I have so little time.

    However, it may be good news for you that I want to make the whole diorama "The Combat of the Thirty in 3D, I have already started, and hopefully I will soon get to publish WIP.

    To return to the topic, I look forward to completing this bust, and I wonder what it will look like in the end. Good luck and fun at work :)
