I really like the dress of this figure. I thougt the pose could do with some improvement though. I used a Historex head with a suitably disgruntled expression. The helmet was ground out with a new cage built. The arms are scratchbuilt around wire armatures.

    Hi John

I like th pose, its a nice figure, I am really getting into the ECW at the moment, but theres not much out there, so I am having to build my own stuff, in the middle of a bust at the moment, buff coar and currasier

Just a little pointer I can see, I think there are a few too many folds in the sleaves, as this would have been made of leather and above the elbow may have been double thickness, so it wouldn’t fold as easy as that....

But other than that its a great conversion, cant wait to see it finished

    Hi John

I see the coat you are doing, now. Forgive me I didn’t see the shoulders on the jacket, its quite unusual, does it have an ordinary shirt underneath, this does seem a little unusual, as it would not be very protective to the arms, but I think I have seen it before, there may be a relic in the Tower of London, with that one thay have some armour for the forearms, will you be using something along these lines.....

You will have to forgive the questions, I want to know as much as I can from this period

No worries Dave. I gather that it's a regular shirt underneath. I am waiting on some references. Until then I've been looking through the site gallery of The Sealed Knot reenactment society. There are some really good images there. I am intrigued by the period as well. This is like a lot of projects I do. I start it because the uniform looks neat and unique, and then I get caught up in the history and learn something I didn't know before.

    Hi John

I have been going on the Sealed Knot site as well, there are a couple of good reference sites for original armour and uniforms, I try not to use the re-enactors reference as the be all and end all, but a good start to getting on the right track.

A couple of good reference books, History of Uniforms, ECW. Anova Books ISBN 1857532112
Lots of good pictorial reference for Uniforms. Also The English Civil War (at first hand) By Tristram Hunt in hardback ISBN 029782953X, is a absolute cracker, if your gonna get a hold of the second one the paperback has only half the images in it.......

I would gladly share any info I have if you need anything else

John, Great job on the figure, gives him a whole new look. It's something how just a few changes here and there transforms a figure.~Gary

The newhead and scuplted hair really give the puritan Ironsides look.

Can't wait to see it painted...
