    Hi Guys
Just finished this, the excellent sculpture of Jim Maddox

    Oils over acyrilics

I have tried out a new flesh colour recommended by a good friend Steve Walker I think I will "tinker" with it to suit in the future

    John,
Excellent painting on this lovely bust.
I find the skincolors great. Maybe a little to red on the cheeks, but it looks very good.

When I first did it I thought it looked a bit orange but looking at my other figures they all seemed to have a purplish colour about them so this was something new to me so I will stick to it and press on
My mate recommended dropping a couple of my oils because they react with each other causing this purple tint . We learn something new every day!
    Cheers mate

    Hi John,

I love the orange/ purple colour tint in the skin tones. It looks very realistic to my eyes.

Looks like he's been on the p*ss for a few decades.

John good looking piece over all. I'm with Marc on the cheeks, a tad too red, just for my tastes, but a minor point on a fun piece. Well done!

    Thanks guys useful comments
    David
The mix I tried was (oils) Yellow ochre, crimson red (Sparingly!) raw sienna, lamp black for shading and white
I played around until I was happy with the mix

The important thing for me was I excluded my staple colours of Burnt umber and Naples yellow hue which I have used for years because they seem to react with other colours giving a purplish tinge!

    Still learning at my age!

    Cheers
