Hi fellow planeteers! Thought I'd show my latest WIP- a cracking sculpt from Troop 54. I am a very slow painter so still plugging away at it since he was started at the end of March....Still some work to do on the hands and right arm before the bottom half begins. Mostly painted in Humbrol enamels with a bit of Vallejo and army painter thrown in. Quite pleased with how he has turned out so far, especially the faded red of the shell jacket and the brass helmet. All comments welcome......Regards Pete 20190906_151308.jpg 20190906_151251.jpg

Great painting, slow but sure and it's paid off. Following the rest of the painting.
    Looking good.

Paul, you could say that...getting under the visor of the helmet was a pain in the arse. Really wanted to add a catch light as well but just couldn't manage it without leaving paint on everything else. Discretion being the better part of valour, I decided to leave it alone it's a great fig though. Thanks for the kind comments. Regards Pete

Thanks Pete, I find them to be great sculpts but have trouble with the eyes ( mine and the figures)
I have yet to do this one, what have you used for the helmet?

That's a saga in itself Bob . Started off with gold printers inks and burnt number oils to get some shading. Once that was dry i used neat burnt umber to draw in the various embossed decorations. Neat gold printers ink to pick out the details and then old gold from vallejo put on for the highest highlights. The acrylic stays more shiny than the rest so it gives a nice contrast and avoids the whole helmet being unrealistically shiny....if that makes sense!

Shading on the shell jacket is spot on, & the weathered unshaven look of the face & dirty fingernails look very realistic. Nice one!

A little more progress today. Sleeves and hands now finished. Just starting work on the overalls and belt buckle but still a lot of work to do! Any comments welcome. Hope all your projects are running smoothly! 20191001_104404.jpg 20191001_104415.jpg 20191001_104425.jpg 20191001_104440.jpg

    Hi Pete

Thanks for the update ...that jacket is looking spot on , like the way you have achieved the contrast , the facings look good as well

Good stuff on the cheverons ..what colours you using for that ?

Looked at the helmet close up ...packed with excellent sculpted details well brought to life by your painting

Good on you I say ....it would make a fine bust in 1/12th as well ....especially with that helmet

Looking forward to seeing more when you can

    Happy benchtime

    Nap
