A few weeks ago, I think it was Roger Newsome drew our attetion to an interesting website of ACW prints www.nightowlstudio.net. This is my interpretation of one of these prints .
The figure is more or less finished and ready for painting.
The figure is scratchbuilt and I have added a modified historex horse because I thought it gave the composition better balance
    Comments welcome

Thanks for the information Mathew,I should perhaps have researched his history I hadn't realised he had such an illustrious record
One question you may be able to help me with.Did the light artillery have a distinctive saddle blanket ? I know they were equipped very much like the calvary who I believe had a dark blue blanket with an orange/yellow stripe.

Victor I intend to start painting today but it may be sometime before the figure's completed particularly as Iintend to paint the horse as a dapple grey which takes ages to do.I'll post an update in due course.

    Marc thanks for your comments

    Hello Peter,

The fellow who painted the Dilger illustration is a good friend of mine here in Ohio. He'll be excited to see what you have done with this amazing sculpture. One interesting element about Dilger's uniform that you might find helpful is that he was known for wearing leather breeches.

I had the good fortune of producing the giclee prints for Todd's ACW series. The research support for each illustration was provided by Larry Strayer, a noted ACW historian and collector who has co-authored some great books under Blue Acorn Press. The Dilger painting was inspired by written material about him and a nice image from Larry's collection.

Dilger was quite a soldier. I can't wait to see the figures painted. Great work!
