Hi all,

I bought this figure to practice on my bronze, flesh colors and black colors in my vacation period.
The face I have now painted 3 or 4 times trying to get it right .
Now it is supposed to be done but I don’t know if I have to be satisfied with the result.
With other light settings it also looks different and in flesh sometimes it looks overdone to me.
Maybe people have some thoughts on this?

The leather is almost done need maybe a bit more shadow.
The arms need some more work and I started painting the hair.
I could not make so many pictures because I had to lend a camera.

Het ziet er goed uit. Ik denk dat je beter kunt schaduwen dan lichten erbij.
Je bent er bijna, maar ik zou zeker het hele figuurtje nog eens nalopen en meer schaduwen.

Costas I will shade the flesh some more, I find it difficult to find the right contrast.

Marc, bedankt voor je compliment. Ik zal nog wat bij schaduwen op de foto ziet de kleuren er ook wat vlakker uit.

I agree with Costas, I think the fleshtones could stand a bit more shading. Not sure if you are finished with the hair, but it looks just too yellew to me. I think the metal work and leather look spot on.

I think it's coming along nicely, but as others have said, a few more shadows might enhance the face a bit more.

Matthew: Thanks for your compliments, the hair was just quick painted with desert yellow to get a better impression how the figure will look. Because with the grey color of the undercoat it looked very strange.
For the hair I want to use a mixture of english uniform, gold yellow and buff.

The figure is mostly finished now.
I applied more shadow on the face and body parts, and a little more highlight on his leathersuit.
I kept the base simple also because I didn't had much objects that fitted with the subject.
I had some problems in fitting the arms some advice is always welcome.

Je zult me wel een zeur vinden, maar het geheel ziet er al een stuk beter uit.
toch blijf ik maar twee kleuren zien behalve in het rechter been. Daar zie je een zeer mooi verloop van schaduw, via basis naar hoge lichten. Kijk eens goed, het is dus mogelijk. Ook in het schild wat overigens erg mooi geschilderd is zie ik maar twee kleuren. Ik denk dat je tijdens het oplichten en schaduwen de basiskleur kwijt raakt. (dat heb ik ook lang gehad, vandaar dat ik met olieverf ben gaan schilderen).
Als je problemen ziet met het monteren van onderdelen zet ze dan vast voordat je gaat schilderen. Om met Shep Paine te spreken: wat je ziet, dat kun je schilderen.
De achterkant van de beenbeschermers zou ik met burnt umber aflijnen. Hierdoor zie je de huidskleur minder op deze stukken.
Het schild moet ook aan de binnenkant van licht naar donker verlopen.
Je bronskleur is geweldig mooi gelukt. De binnenkant van het zwaardhand moet ook wat geschaduwd worden, zeker bij het handvat.
Afijn, weer genoeg op en aanmerkingen gemaakt, maar ik hoop dat je er wat aan hebt.

Marc, ik vind je echt geen zeur. Je hebt gewoon gelijk, het was mij ook al opgevallen en op foto's is dit nog beter te zien. Het is een kwestie van de juiste verdunning voor het oplichten en schaduwen. Bij zijn rechterbeen had ik de juiste verdunning te pakken en kon ik een goede overgang creeren naar de schaduw. Het zelfde geldt eigenlijk voor het schild. Ik zal nog eens proberen om mooiere overgangen te krijgen. En de binnenkant van het shild was nog niet geschaduwt maar dat moet ook nog gebeuren.
Bedankt voor je commentaar en de tips. Hopelijk wordt het eindresultaat nog een stukje beter.

Final pictures

When I was almost finished with this figure I dropped it on the floor.
So I glued the pieces together again and repainting the damaged part. I also did additional highlighting and shadowing of the skin and shield but it doesn’t show on the photos very well. Probably even some more highlights and shadows would have been better, but I will leave it like it is, and will continue with my next figure. So here are the final pictures of Achilles.

Ik heb geprobeert om de shaduw en de oplichting van de huid beter te krijgen, dat is op sommige plaatsen beter gelukt dan op andere. Het shild is aan de binnen- en buitenzijde meer geschaduwt en opgelicht, maar ik denk dat het niet voldoende is geweest aan de foto’s te zien. Maar ik heb al te lang naar brad gekeken dus ik laat het hierbij en ga bezig met een volgend figuur.

Nice work on the flesh. I think it needs no more. I d aonly use some dark brown for the hair deepest creases to add volume and depth. The metal work is nice, and in total is a beautiful little figure . BRAVO
