This was the subject figure for the Atlanta seminar and the sculpting DVD that was done in association with the seminar.

I did a pseudo SBS on this over on Timelines, check it out Here. It has a decent sbs on how I go about painting the face for this particular figure.

The figure is a 54mm original with a Hornet head.

    Hi Anders,
I agree this is another beautiful figure. Those areas of simple color and the clean paintwork are very striking together. I think this is a great example that a figure doesn't need miles of lace or pattern to be a really stunning piece.
    Cheers Mat

    Thanks guys!

It was a fun figure to paint, a much cleaner paintjob then what I normally like to do. The reason for sculpting the piece in the first place was the nice contrast between the scarlet and the black trousers with the stripe that caught my eye.

    Mat,

I agree, there is a certain charm about a simple figure, without a lot of eye candy to distract you. I always enjoy the challange of making even a simple figure interesting without a lot of flash to distract.

    Pedro,

I did receive the figures, thanks!! I appreciate the comparison with Mike Blank, he is a really good friend of mine and I respect him and his work tremendously. I actually grew up going to shows in Sweden marveling at his work! It is ironic that I only got to know him since I moved to the US, half a world away!

    David,

The SBS have some in-progress pictures of how the reds were painted. But as far as colors used here you go: The colors used were all Vallejo: Vermillion, Cavalry Brown, Scarlet, Black, Red Violet and Gunship Green. The key when using Vallejo Reds, Blues and Blacks is to use Reapers Anti Shine Addative with it, this will produce a dead flat finish every time. Hope this helps!

    Thanks again guys!!

    Hey David,

Yea the Tamiya Flat Base is a good alternative! It is essentially the same thing as Reapers, just the Reapers one come in a bottle like their paints so it is a bit easier to use then the Tamiya one. They both do the same thing though so it should work perfectly for you!

Simple and effective painting Anders, sometimes less is more.
Thanks for taking the time to do the SBS as well.
