and I need to start working on the groundwork... Any ideas for the groundwork? I'm still considering several options, but your suggestions are most welcome.

    Cheers,

    Here's my terrain suggestion, Mario

    Hello Mario:

First of all, let me commend you on a beautifully painted figure. Oh if I could
just paint flesh tones half that good. You asked about suggestions for
ground work, or as I call it, terrain, terra firma, et cetera. :)

Well, my suggestion isn't real specific as to materials. But I will say that I
suggest you keep in mind when you chose how the base and terran will be,
that you pick items that are in color harmony with the painting of the figure.

For example, I would not pick flowers that are red or orange, as I don't see
those colors in harmony with the earth tones of browns and greens. But I
might pick light yellow flowers or a light shade of blue as those
colors go so well with greens, browns, et cetera.

Yes, this is kind of an abstract suggestion but I think it has merit.
Color balance or harmony, along with composition are two of the
most important things for a successful presentation, in my view,
at least. And most of the artists here understand that as we see
by the work they display in a very professional presentation.

Eager to see how you finish up this project. Beautiful start.

Thanks guys, I'm glad you like the figure. Thanks for the kind words on the splinter... I really enjoyed painting the camo pattern. My next figure will also be in splinter, but a slightly different Luftwaffe variation.

Grenade lettering is a decal from Peddinghaus... as well as the helmet decal. Peddinghaus has some great decal sets for 1/16 figures.

As for the groundwork; I was thinking about a part of destroyed factory or some similar kind of "industrial" terrain... a destroyed wall with iron fence... bricks and stuff like that. I'm still not sure about it and I've been making sketches with several different concepts... hmmm...

    Cheers,
    Mario

Excellent mate love the whole composition, seeing as you have muddy boots - I would suggest some muddy ground and a broken war damaged backdrop especially as his foot is raised as to step on a broken wall close to a ruined house ? some small plants on the edges and muddy grass. Thanks for posting,

Fantastic work Mario,I think your idea for an industrial type setting for this figure would work very well, what about some nice twisted steel beams.

OK, here's the groundwork I've been building with the first coat of base color:

And just a teaser for you to see how it will all look once I finish painting the base. Some more wires, beams etc will be added in the end.

    Wow, this will be super

By George you've got it. With that German emblem on the quality wood base
and the wall in ruin, this will really look strictly all class, first class. Excellent!
