Hello everybody, this is another work in progress , a viking from Miniature Alliance in 90 mm. After the primer with Tamiya surface primer , I undercoated with acrilics , the basecoat is with oils, the face and the helmet are half done as are the pants, the other parts are at the beginning with the first hihglights and shadows . The shield is still in acrylic basecoat. As usual any criticism and comments welcome .

    Cheers Stefano

    Stefano,
Here are some tips for the red, with oil paint.
If you have the basecoat done with you "must"do with a cadmium red, i think you have highlight with white. Don't do that because your color become a pink color.
Highlighting red could be done with yellow, or venetian red. Shading should be done with green. If you do that, you kept the red color exellent.

you can also highlight red with flesh color, it gives nice natural faded look to reds. Also try Naples Yellow Red several of the better quality oil paint manufactures produce it. I like to shade with Bordeaux from Daniel Smith Co. There line of paints are of a very high quality, I have several hard to find colors from them.

Thank you Dennis for your suggestion, for the cloak i'm thinking a sort of pinkish colour , the undercoat is a light pink acrylic , i start the basecoat with an oil mix of zinc white, cadmium red, venetian red, naples yellow and a dab of burnt sienna . My idea is to try a new colour for the cloak which could add more ancient character to the figure. The same i 'm thinking with the helmet for whom i chose new colours scheme : an undercoat of silver acrylic with a following drybrush with silver model master enamel , then a wash with a mix of lamp black and burnt sienna oils , when dry i started with light wash dabs of sepia, bronze , gold and silver oils, afterwards with wash dabs of Tamiya color x19 smoke clear,x21 clear orange,x24clear yellow, x25clear green and x27 clear red. In this moment i begin another oil wash to melt the tones.. For the oils i use Winsor & Newton and Daler-Rowney for the best .. but i will try the danielsmith you are suggesting me...:)

    Cheers Stefano
