I have most of the base coat down, expect for the gloves and have started on highs and lows. Also he still has some gear to go on
Sorry not the best pic it was taken at night inside

Good start. I suggest you try to push the contrasts between highlights and shadows a bit more to enhance the 3D effect.

Yes, I agree with Tony's comment on contrast.
Make sure to post more pics! :)

About 90% done on this 1/35 Grenadier ;D
    Need more contrast still???
Any tips or other hints to make it better? Or for maybe my next figure

    Nice work.

What really helps to make your painting pop is to outline all major features in a very dark, almost black colour. And make sure to use SOME very dark shadows on the most dark spots. Less is more, be careful not too go too far.
Some further, selective, strong highlights (on just a few spot catching a lot of light, be restrictive with this) enhances that 3D impression.
It's not so difficult, really. It only (!) requires a sharp brush and a careful hand. Just give it a try on your next one.

    Good luck and have fun.

    Cheers,
    Adrian

    Thanks Adrian
I have been trying to do that but now when I think about it, my hightlights and lowlights I am using may not be as bright and dark as they should be. I will try and add this to the two grenadiers I am currently doing
    Thanks

    Thankyou Steve

Any tips on painting trousers or gloves, I haven't finished them and am looking for ideas on colours or thoughts
Was maybe thinking about changing them to oak leaf pattern

    Nice progress.
In this scale it can work well to highlight the edges of the collar, breast pockets and shoulder boards thinly but strongly. Be careful not to overdue it.
You could also try for a bit more general highlights but only on the upper parts of the parka.

I'd go for dirty white pants personally.

    Cheers,
    Adrian

    Thanks Adrian
Yes was thinking about dirty trousers or maybe oak leaf if I dare
Really helps getting advice as you really get close minded doing your own figure
You don't see it, in the same light as others looking at it
