This diorama has been 14 different things. Sorry folks, bear with me.

There's good news - All 5 [YES, DEAR FRIENDS HE SAID FIVE! Groan!] figures are finished. The Belgian cobblestone street now looks a bit more like the photos of Belgian cobblestone streets sent by my Belgian friends, including those posted here on pF! Thanks for the help!!
Then there's bad news - I still need to sculpt an outside wall of a small brick home to add to one side of the street. Also groan! Anybody want to volunteer to collaborate on that with me?

The 2 figures that have been added are a Belgian mama and her son. Mama will be leaning out of a window talking with one of the RN seamen. The little boy will be standing to attention with his stick gun and grinning at the Royal Marine. I think this will all make sense. [??!!] The boy is sculpted from scratch - my first face, gulp. I worked from a photo of a group of little boys in Antwerp in 1914. The boy figure is more or less taken from the one on the right of the photo. Mama started out as the Worster female mannikin in 120mm and I added period dress. Since she is leaning out of a window, I didn't need to sculpt the bottom half.

Dave Cox will eventually get to paint this monster. WHAT have you gotten yourself into Dave???!!! :)

Don't try and put me off - the pics just reinforce my determination to do this justice with the brushes!

    It's coming along nicely Dan.

Rog - Glad you like it! Very slow progress.

Dave - You are made of stern stuff, my friend! Would love to ship it to you now, but I need the figures to be able to pose them with the house/wall.

    All the best,
    Dan

Dan, That's quite a composition. That photo of the Belgian kids is great. I think including the kid and female figure really add to the scene.~Gary

Thanks, Gary! I think they will also - - assuming I EVER finish this thing!!!! Thanks for 'egging me on' to try the little boy. What you see is the 5th try! I followed your figure SBS mostly. The face almost drove me crazy. I take my hat off to folks that can do faces! Whoa - that's hard!

    All the best!

    Dan
