Just updating from the lost thread. It's 75mm. I am working on a Krag for him now. The metal weapon he holds is only for positioning.

John, Nice figure. are you going to get the Krag cast? You never know when you'll want to revisit the subject.~Gary

I want to get that, the canteen, pistol, and perhaps the hat cast. The Krag was nearly done and I wasn't happy with the forestock, so I'm redoing it. I had to set the whole project aside to paint or I won't be ready for Tulsa and WE.

John, if you cast the Krags I would be interested in getting one or two.

John...Any chance you could easily change him into a line officer. Reason I ask, is it may be an interesting piece to make him LT COl Web Hayes, who was awarded the CMO in the Phillipines. He was one of 2 sons of ex-Presidents to win the CMO.
Anyone venture to guess who the 2nd son was??

I hadn't thought to make it anyone in particular. Perhaps I should consider it. The book I used as a primary reference is "Cowboys in Uniform". Most of the pics therein seem to be enlisted.

I believe the other CMH winner was TR jr. IIRC.

Lookin' good John, I like that scale too! I t looks like you used a UEM mannequin for this guy? If so, did you use the arm sections provided? I couldn't figure out how to put these together temporarily while adjusting the pose.

I did Randy. I wrestled with the arms a bit. In the end, I wound up gluing them in place to pose it, and then cutting them off. I drilled all the way through the shoulder and placed a wire that stuck out of the shoulder. This allowed me to sculpt the arm in place, but still remove it to work on it and refine the sculpting in the inboard part of the arm. It wasn't a perfect process and I would entertain suggestions on doing this easier.

Yes John, TR's Son was the 2nd CMH ( not CMO...what was i thinking). He did it as the oldest combat soldier landing in Normandy on D-Day...age 54.

Yes, it's true - BGen. Teddy Roosevelt, Jr. died on July 12, 1944 while helping lead the 4th. Infantry Division, of which he was the XO, through the hedgerows of Normandy. It is said that he was to be given command of his own infantry division just days after his untimely death. As to which division, I don't remember at this time.

I've always wanted to do a vignette of him - walking cane and map case included - kneeling behind a Belgian hedgehog on Utah beach with his staff over a map. I thought of titling it "we'll start the war right here."

Thanks John. The arms on the fig I'm working on now needed to be positioned precisely to cross at the wrist, and grasp a weapon. I couldn't come up with a method that allowed me to assemble and make adjustments to the arm sections, so I just replaced them with a wire armature. I'd be interested to se how Gary does it.
