76. Day, 26. March 2012

I see again "Red" today – this time the last segment of the Bashlyk scarf is painted.









Tomorrow still the seams, then this nice detail is also finished!

78. Day, 27. March 2012

Still the striking seams which I had to postmodel are absent the Bashlyk scarf. They are now in the row.

In black I did not want to paint them, this would not have removed them of the black Tscherkesska enough.

But black also is generally no "must"!

The Painter has – even if in certain borders – so to speak, the „free choice“ because the Kuban-Cossacks deceive also other variations – particularly their officers!

Here the original of a Kuban-Cossack-Bashlyk with which the seams with silver braids are decorated …:



And so I have painted it …:









Besides, I have tried again to paint the effect of material braids by lining up many small lines which gleam, but shine not metallically.

So – and now with it the bust corpus is painted ready.

Now the boy must still move on his final base, the „invisible side“ must be painted – and then the small parts are mounted and painted.

79. Day, 28. March 2012

Today the small Cossack moves – from the working block on his base.

Maybe you still remember, that I the bust at that time with …



… on the working block had stuck.

This glue holds firm enough, around with paint no disagreeable surprises to experience.
One gets the bust on account of the state of the glue with a small rotation and a small jerk also easily again loose.

Not to damage the painting by sweat tracks or fat tracks, I stretch over the hand which touches, besides, the bust a leather glove.

Voilà – the separation …:



Then 4mm-Stick of Alu is cut suitably and with …



… anchored in the base.



When the glue was hardened ready, the bust came to her final place.

Because the whole a little bit is forethead-heavy, the thing was stabilised by means of a paper "sausage" up to hardening the glue …:



And now it looks like this…:

Today first of all the base is wrapped in protecting culinary foil …:



After that the „invisible side“ of the small Cossack is painted with pure black.

I paint black also the aluminium stick on which the bust is. So it disappears optically and aand the – desired – Effect comes, that the bust "floats", so to speak, above the base.

There is only one exception where I use no black:

On the underside Andy has signed the bust …:

At the Caucasus every man was always armed at the time in which it is here, a custom which the Cossacks Terek-and Kubanhosts also took over.

The main weapon of course was the saber, "Saschka" or "Schaschka" called.

As second – not to be underestimated – weapon the Caucasians carried a dagger with 30 to 40 centimetre long blade, the so-called "Kindschal" or "Kindjal".



This dagger was in the close fight on grounds of his spike blade not only a good sting weapon, but because of his on both sides sharp blade and her length a dreaded hit-weapon!

There were of course an easy implementations of these Kindjal daggers …:





Generally, however, the "Kindjal" was valid as a symbol of manhood and was normally left bequeath by the father to the oldest son.

Therefore there many very old pieces were with precious silver fitting or golden fitting in the circulation, here a few examples …:





I had selected Andy as a model for his sculpt this copy, with I especially well like …:



And - as usual absolutely precisely - he has also sculpted it!

Around the assembly has to simplify Andy the bust already with a suitable hole equipped …:



In the back of the dagger fragment there is a suitable plug …:



The above photo originated remaining still before the cleaning of the part!

I recommend to short the plug a little, so that the dagger sits later also "full".

Thus prepared, nothing can fail with the assembly, actually – is apart from spilling with glue what with, fortunately, saved remained.

I the small part again with 2 component glue …



… at the bust mounted …:





To experience no disagreeable surprises, I allow to harden the glue now about the week-end.

The next Monday it is painted.

82. Day, 2. April 2012

Now the Kindjal dagger is also painted!

I have with these colours …



… pursued a considerable expenditure to let look like to the original, the whole like "oxidised silver". All together there were five passageways which existed in each case of painting-washing-drybrushing.

Now it looks like that …:





Oh yes, the white stuff there below on the base is only one crumb which I have forgotten to take off before taking a photo...

A few days ago I have written, that I this small "tongue" below in the saber strap …



… had painted black to let it "disappear" optically…:



The reason for the fact was that it concerns, on this occasion, the connection point for a silver fitting in the saber strap which is added the bust also as a small part …:



Of course this detail has been also modeled by Andy after a Caucasian original piece …:



It is really a small trick that Andy has made this detail as an extra part, because only so the silver fitting can be shown realistically!

If he was casted on the bust, it would hang down either not according to the model and the gravitation after (silver is heavy!)

This quite tiny detail …



… I just have, again with 2-component-glue …



...mounted – namely in such a way, that it realistically hangs down …:



Comes already quite well …!

Today while taking photos I have managed by pure chance a nice dramatic lighting of the head.
Also I like it!

I'm getting to pick up the thread where I left off, and you've gotten quite a lot done since then, really excellent progress, Martin! Wahnsinn, die Details, meine ich, und das mit dem silber, gut getroffen, mein Alter!

Now the silver fitting is also painted ready!

To generate a little bit other silver clay than with the dagger, I have left out the tracks of gold in my mixture now …:



I am glad very much that I could work the small ornaments by washing and dry brushes well out …:
