    Hello all,

I've been wanting to paint this figure for a while - it's a lovely sculpt by Tony Williams and I wanted to portray a figure in the retreat from Moscow in 1812. I tried to keep the tones muted, though the red sash adds a bit of colour. The face was painted much lighter than usual, and the nose was made pinkish.

The snow is Scale75 artificial snow mixed with white glue. On top of this I dabbed some Vallejo white pigment mixed with matt varnish. I also added some pigment to the figure.

    Hope you like it.

By golly Edward that's a good 'un !

That's the slushiest slush I've seen for a while too, it's so easy to overdo it.
I think it's Goldilocks standard......."just right" and very authentic, well done.

    Paul.

A great looking figure and to add to that, he looks bloody cold, well done.

An excellent rendition mate. I think the decision to add 'warmth' with the red sash really does work as it gives a much-needed contrast on what is otherwise a very tonally cool figure.
The skin tones are spot on as well and the pink touch accurately reflects how skin goes when you're freezing cold.
Wise also to show restraint in the snow as some would have put snow on the headdress and shoulders, but I reckon that might be overdoing it.

Always fun to do snowy groundwork

Overall - one for the scrapbook - an excellent project mate.

Thanks a lot for your comments guys.

Thanks mate - I didn't want him to end up covered in snow - was thinking of adding snow to the headdress and shoulders but didn't in the end..

Can't add much more to what's been said already.
BP's absolutely right about the restraint, in this case it really works.(y)

Well done, Edward, a nice balance there with the muted shades. He does look a little chilly:((y) to say the least.
