Tried a few different things with this.
The breast armour is leather but has a metallic sheen to it. I mixed german camo beige with some white pearlescent scale 75 paint which got the effect I was happy with. Added more pearlescent for highlights.
Then oiled up with umber paint sponged off and then washed again with a lighter umber (Cheers David Mitchell for the advice on that). I will try this again on other leather effects. I have the Emperor next and will try for white leather breast armour.

I tried scale 75 black metal metallic paint for the first attempt but I wasnt happy with it. So I went with flat balck with a wee bit of black metal. You can see the effect in the pic.
The gold trim was vallejo gold and scale 75 speed metal to give the highs. The speed metal went on brilliantly smooth and gave a superb finish like polished steel.
First time I used the Scale 75 metallics and I prefer them to even the Dark Star paints and can recommend you try them out.
The black was brushed with pencil scrapings and then scratches added. ( Blatantly stolen from Del)

Attempted the weave of the tunic and found just going horizontally was better than adding vertical as it just looked like a grid.

    See what you think,

    Gells

    Thanks Brian,
Davie just recommended the light umber wash.

You know he doesn't go in for that acrylic, pearlescent witchcraft......he thinks it's the work of the devil!

Great job on this bust Grant. Particularly like the work on the leather cuirass, it's turned out brilliant.
Kudos for risking pearlescent, it's worked really well.

    Grant,
Always like your style painting but these last 2 pieces you have risen to a new high. The leather effect is fantastic and your faces look lifelike. Yours is the 3rd rave about Scale 75 metallics so I have read so I'll have to try them.

Great work! Brilliant effect on the armor. I second the praise for Scale 75 metallics. They are the best I have ever used. When this brand first become available locally, I said I would get one set just to give it a try but would not replace the paints I had been using. That was last fall. I now have 10 of the 8 bottle sets and that is most of them. Some of the colors are really thick. I recommend using the steel shakers from AK interactive.

He turned out lovely, all textures painted convincingly, must try some of these Scale 75 metals, I am still searching for a satisfying system for metallics that doesn't throw sparkles all over the place.

    Thanks Nige

Cheers Del always a pleasure getting kudos from you.

Thank you Bob, that very kind of you to say this.

Appreciated Tom, I did the same as you now have most of the scale 75 sets and my Vallejos are gathering dust.

Thank you Pavol my good friend. Your sculpting skills are amazing especially on this figure.

    Much appreciated Jeff.

Hi Terry, yep mate no flakes with the scale 75 and that was with a bit of polishing, oil wash and pencil buffing.

Thanks Adrian, High praise indeed from a painter of your standard. Thank you.

Hello Mobo, thanks you for taking time to comment.

Hello Clrsgt, glad you like the armour.

    Like this one a lot!

Did you paint in the cloth structure in the tunica or is it sculpted?

    Cheers
